Ok so for some silly reason i've decided me and H2B are going to get married this year (just feels right)....so i need to find a venue and fast but the thing is
    1. I'm unemployed with no prospects for future employment atm
    2. H2B may or may not be getting laid off in the next few weeks (same thing happened this time last year and didn't manage to find a job until May/June!)
    3. If he gets laid off then we're going to be made homeless and will need to move and really the suspense is driving me mad!, but concentrating on wedding stuff is taking my mind off of it but then its the whole issue of budget etc.

So this morning when i woke up a lovely bit of mail arrived for me! A wedding package for £999!! this is the cheapest i've seen in Plymouth for something thats going to be reasonably decent.
It includes: Red carpet, informal host, room hire, civil ceremony room hire, drinks reception and sandwich buffet for 30 guests, evening reception room hire, selected fork or finger buffet for 50 guests, evening reception dj entertainment until 1am, private bar, and accomadation for me and H2B....which all in all isnt too bad!

OR i could go the other way, something really cheap. get married at the registry office and have a party somewhere but i'm finding it difficult to find a venue!

no matter what choice the rest of the things for the wedding are going to be done with the help of friends and family, cake, photography, cars etc.....

    help, pleaseeee xxx

I would enquire as to whether, should the worst happen, you would simply be able to change the date. If so, and you're really interested in this package, then book it and bag yourself some wedding insurance - that way, if your h2b is laid off, you can rest assured that you can delay the wedding without losing all your money :)

    Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

The deal sounds really good! Maybe book in to visit the venue, meet the team and find out if there are any other costs (bar, linen, cake cutting service). How exciting & a great way to take your mind off other things!
You could go down the route of picking the party venue yourself, local football & rugby clubs might do cheap venue hire - my friend's having her wedding party at a working men's club & I went to a lovely one recently which was a buffet & disco at a hotel. Very simple, but lovely & we were there to celebrate a very happy marriage. Best of luck with your hunting! So who have you nominated to do things? Got my mother-in-law on the case for doing the centre-pieces and my mum might do us some cakes for the evening's cake buffet if we're very nice! xx

Well i havent been able to talk to my OH family much so at the moment ive got
Best Friend/ MOH - wedding planner LOL
Mum - Wedding cake, favours and invitations, and if we go for the cheap option then she'll be caterer too
Dad or Brother might be driver, i know my brother was able to get hold of a really nice car for my other brother's wedding so im keeping my fingers crossed, i was quite happy to get a black cab lol but my mum told me off, also there's the thing of my H2B's dad and half-brothers own/run a taxi company, so that could be an idea
Dad or guests as photographers - my dad does it as a hobby, or i was thinking get those disposable camera's or digital cameras you can hire and the guests can take pictures and we put it on a website for everyone to download as they like.
I've already got my dress and bridesmaid dresses and my shoes from being engaged before (sounds odd i know but its MY dress, it's the dress, what can i say??)
Ebay is going to be a good one for center pieces im thinking, and i might get silk flowers instead of real ones because i'm allergic lol.....we'll see

Just check with the insurance if they do cover you for unemployment resulting in not being able to pay for the wedding. Some may do it some may not. You could always ask your guests if they will help pay towards their meal which would in turn pay for the hotel venue. You would have to see if they are willing to help out before you do that though.

elsie- i have pics on my photo album thing :) the coloursed bit will be claret red and the bridemaid dresses are so cool 'cause they're the exact (almost) opposite of my dress, so theirs will be claret red too (not the brown in the pic)
jo- instead of asking them to pay towards the food, we're going to be asking for holiday vouchers :) but will definately look into the wedding insurance

Hi from across the bridge!!!! I know that feeling well. We were originally set to marry in 2009 but fell pregnant with my beautiful lil boy. Then we set our date for Dec 2011 and I was sooooo excited! It was the only thing I thought about day and night and it helped forget about the not so nice things that we were going through. Then the sale of our house fell through a few steps down the chain and Steve and I made the difficult decision to put our wedding back a year to Dec 2012. It hit me hard but I do realise its for the best as I struggled with the cheaper/sooner wedding or the lil bit more expensive/later wedding. I searched the internet for a long time looking for a venue in Plymouth and surrounding areas. We booked with a Plymouth Hotel and paid a £300 deposit, then by accident found our dream Plymouth venue only a few weeks later! We worked through all the figures and found that if we put the wedding back to 2012 we could afford it and there would be far less stress.
i dont think it matters whether you book a wedding for sooner or later, my best advice would be to choose a venue you feel 100% right about and that the people you deal with at the venue, see your wedding as unique and are open to your ideas.
Im here for you if you want any help or advice.
Oh when you mentioned putting your photos on a website, it reminded me on the wedding websites you can make. Not sure if you have already done one but they are easy to do and free. Good fun too, especially for impatient b2b that love organising every aspect. Once your website is done, your guests can view it with a password. It gives them all the info they need ie venues/times/directions/menu options/etc... They can even rsvp via your pages. I have one at weddingpath and if you want to see mine I can send you the link through to your wall. Good luck hun. Wishing you all the best in your wedding planning. xxxx

P.s Sorry for the long post.

Seriously sit down and think about wether or not getting married this year is the best thing cos at the end of the day its not just a big fancy wedding its a marriage and if you know your going to be with each other forever then why rush especially if you dont have much money I know cos we're in a similar situation and have moved our wedding to next year, its not just the venue you have to think about its all the other things as well your dress suit hire bridesmaids invites/stationary favours decorations the list goes on and on it sounds a brill deal and i wish mine was as cheap as that but just sit and write down everything you'll need etc and work out if you seriously can afford it especially if the worst does happen.
sorry to be blunt but the same sort of thing is going on with us good luck hun x

It is scary when you sit down and jot up all the different things. Some you can do without but some like the legal costs are unavoidable. xxx

See thats the thing, either one is not going to be a big fancy wedding, i think you have me all wrong on that front. I have thought about it long and hard, whether its right or not to do it this year. But tbh me and me H2B have been through so much, and come through it together, its nice to celebrate and acknowledge that with our nearest and dearest.
And it's not exactly rushing into things, when you think about it we could get married in 3 weeks!
So yes i have taken the time to sit down and think about the costs and write it all down, it is very real then just how much you need. But at the same time its good to keep yourself realistic....this is literally one day just one in hundreds more to come, i dont care too much whther its big or fancy, spending lots on silly things we dont need.
most of what we're having is through the help of friends and family, and is wayyyy more fun, and wayy less stress....

I have to agree with what Sian"OCD"west has said have you thought about not booking anything until you know about h2b's job especially if there's a risk of becoming homeless if you know the wedding can be covered then happy days, again to agree with sian sorry if it's come across blunt it's not meant in a nasty way xx

No, no, no....right i didnt mean it as if i took it offensively.....we're moving in 3 weeks (just spoke to the landlord) and by the 14th Jan we'll know if he's getting laid off or not. Either way we'll still be able to afford a wedding of somesort, it wouldnt be putting us out.
Neither did i say i was going to book something straight away i'm not one to rush lightly into things, (certainly made my H2B wait long enough lol) i'm literally just looking around, thought it was a really good deal,I'm sorry if it sounded like i took offence, i didn't! but going through things and not being taken seriously is a sore point for me (im not saying you guys don't!)
Lets put it simply.....things may or may not happen, i was airing the frustration on that part (sorry), the other part of me is planning but not booking anything yet until we find out on the 14th,....but lets think postively now (im too pessimistic normally)....if he does get to keep his job (fingers crossed) which one do i go for????....its bugging me lol
