my venue has given me these timings based on a 1pm catholic church wedding 10 mins from venue, but im not liking the 1.5hrs in between arriving and the breakfast food.
is it worth moving my church time? its not set in stone, as id prefer only 30/45 mins inbetween, i was hopin to shave 350 of my canape charge by asking for 3 not 5 per person, but im thinking 3 to munch on for that length wait, ppl will be starved.
are these timing normal?

They r giving u 1.5 hrs so u have time for ceremony photos and travel.. day 30-45mins ceremony(guessing) and half hr for photos? Then travel

Our caterers have come up with these timings for ours:
13:00 Wedding at St Andrews Church in Halstead 14:40 Depart Halstead 15:00 Arrive EARM – Drinks reception 16:00 Wedding breakfast 18:00 Speeches 18:30 Evening bar open and evening guests to arrive 23:00 Music to be off 23:30 Guests to depart 00:00 All suppliers to depart the venue
We want to have our speeches before the wedding breakfast and we're trying to fit an hour or two of miniature railway aswell so it may need a little tweaking, but it looks like yours is normal. Our venue is a 15 minute drive from the church.
Ours was a Catholic church wedding, it was supposed to be at 1.30pm but I was 20 minutes late (oops). Are you having just the wedding service, wedding service with communion (where communion is blessed before the ceremony so no mass), or full wedding mass? We had the service with communion so that I and the Catholic guests could have communion but hubby and everyone else didn't have to endure a full Catholic mass.
We finished at the church including photos at approx 3pm, were at the reception venue for 3.20pm, welcome drinks, canapés, mingling with guests and photos were taken from then until the receiving line at 4.30pm for the wedding breakfast to start at 5pm, speeches was approx 6.30pm and cake cutting at 7.00pm I think and first dance at 8pm.
Hope that helps.
I think your timings sound fine x

I think that's normal. Group shots and photographs are normally done at the reception venue and you might be suprised how long they take. I don't think anyone will be starving and it also allows for the bride and groom portraits and if you want a receiving line that usually takes up quite a bit of time. X

'Aw ty guys, i think im just really panicin over the number of canapes deep down, dont wanna fork out for 5 at 2.60 a person but OH does, cos he thinks ppl will be hovering around starved after such a long service.
as for the church im not sure what the priest is giving us, he wont meet us until after we've gone on our wedding weekend engagement thingy in feb, but our date is secure, the priest suggested a 1pm wedding.
why is this planning stuff so hard haha, doesnt help im doin it alone with no females to bounce stuff off

I think most people will have had lunch before the ceremony, usually people wouldn't eat then until their evening meal. Seeing as you will be feeding them at 4pm I think 5 canapés each would spoil the dinner? Even 3 canapés sounds quite a bit to me!

We did 5 canapés per person and they were all eaten x

yeah our parish does an engagment weekend, not just a day thing.
see im still thinking 3 canapes cos i think people will eat before hand too, we're picking them up from the hotel, coach to venue then we coach them back. our guests are more into their drink lol

we had an hour and a half between arriving at our venue and sitting down and tbh by the time everyone had checked in, got their drink and had photos we were right on time. Our wedding co-ordinator for the day actually came to make sure we were going to be on time :-) x

I would imagine that 2:30 might be pushing it for arrival drinks actually. We had a 12:00 Anglican wedding and didn't leave the church until after 3:00. Some guests had left before then but a lot stayed while photos were taken, and a number of the people who did go ahead were staying at the hotel where we had the reception, so went to their rooms first. I think realistically if you do photos at the church you don't need drinks before 3:00, and then people will arrive at different times. If you do photos at the reception venue then you will need that time for them. As for canapés, we served cakes at the church after the service, not the wedding cake, just normal shop bought ones and homemade ones. That way people were kept going until the breakfast and it was far cheaper than canapés.
