I dont know if this is a question or just a discussion topic or even a little moan but I'm not having a hen party. :-/

I was going to go to Glasgow and have a few drinks with my bestest but she's between jobs and neither of us can really afford to do it. I dont have a lot of close girl friends, if any really. I see my best friend once every three months as we live so far away from each other.

I dont drink and all hen do's seem to be really heavy drinking related, if I got a few random friends together they'd want a drink so it seems to silly to have one.
Has anybody else gone without a hen do?

I have to disagree that all hen do's seem to be heavily drinking related - if you don't want to get drunk and have a "typical" hen then that's completely fine! I'm going to Poole for 2 nights with my bridesmaids and whilst we will have drinks, the aim isn't to get as drunk as we possibly can - I'm just looking forward to the time away and some girly time! If you can get a few people together, you could do something like afternoon tea?

Has your OH organised his stag do? If not, you could look at potentially have a "sten" do? xx

He hasn't organised his stag yet.

I guess my fear is not wanting people to come along and be bored because there's no drinking involved. All hens I've been to with friends it's always had heavy drinking sessions and in fairness the culture around here is to have a few drinks or more.

I'm undescided, I dont want to upset people by having a 'boring' hen do but then again I don't really have anybody I want to hen with.

The "sten" sounds good but I dont think his friends would be too happy about that!xx

You could always have one but as afternoon tea instead.

You shouldn't worry about upsetting other people.. it's YOUR hen, you're entitled to do what you want without having to worry about other people!!! If they want a p1ss up they can have one any time. Your hen should be about what you want to do :-)

If you don't want to label it a "hen" because you are worried about what people will expect, maybe you could do something slightly different and have a "pre-wedding get together" or some casual pre-wedding drinks? xx

You say its a moan. Is that because you want a hen do? Assuming so you can have it however you like. The traditional tacky hen do with penis straws and heavy drinking or it can be the complete opposite.

My cousin was the same but she labelled it as a bridal shower (but without the gifts)
We have drinks (not everyone was drinking. I was on tea!) and food in her back garden and just had a chat and a laugh. We did play the wedding dress with toilet roll game but it was good fun.

I left at about 8 ish as I had a while to drive home and a few people had left before me so it was only really her closest friends family were there then

How about an afternoon tea or you could arrange a meal out where everyone pays for themselves. Or just a girly night in, watch a good film, do your nails order a take away.. That way you are still having a hen do but it is much more relaxed and without the heavy drinking which you don't want xx

It's entirely up to you what you want. No hen or a hen without drinking.

I don't drink so had a traditional girls night out with the girlfriends which was great even without me drinking, was a pretty cheap evening I believe, my sister and best mate paid for me but it was only £25 a head anyway or something like that. Then we stayed overnight in a posh hotel and had a spa day the following day.

Afternoon tea is also a good option. Or just a girly night in. Takeaway, dvds and beauty treatments you can DIY x

I dont think I know anybody that well to have the whole dvd takeaway thing but its a nice idea.

@Emily, I didnt know what to call the post, I dont know wether I wanted advice or not. LOL. People are asking about it, but I think they want me to have a hen do because they want the usual "penis straws" and "male dancers" kind of event.
Also if I mention I wont be having a hen do I get the head tilt "awwww thats a shame" face.

I might look into just having afternoon tea and call it a bridal shower without the gifts. hehe. Thanks girlies. xx

I would have thought a lot of people like the idea of a proper girls day/night out rather than the drinking.
Hope you find something you enjoy! x

I wasn't going to have one, similar reasons to you. But our office was allocated some money for a night out as we'd done so well, so they are using that towards it and there are now 20+ of us going out in May. It will be the typical hen do which I don't mind. The assistant manager is very kindly organising it and I have no idea what is going on except I am staying over night and they will be dressing me up as something because they measured my boobs for a bra size!

Do what you want. Afternoon tea/bridal shower sounds fab. I might do this with my mum and a few friends as the other one is just work people.

I'm hoping to do Battlefield Live for my hen do!
It's a bit like grown up lazer tag spread across a couple of acres of land with camouflage outfits and missions to do. No drinking involved and it's sure as hell not boring... whether people are up for a couple of hours of getting muddy and running around is another task haha.

    I'd do whatever you fancy.

I didn't have one. It's not really my thing. I don't have lots of friends, and hardly any female ones. A few people in here made suggestions, which were great, but just not me. I don't regret not having one. My husband didn't want a stag party either.

My SIL had afternoon tea, and we went pottery painting. We did go to a bar in the evening but no one was getting drunk, particularly as some people were driving.

My Hen do is going to be me, my sister and 1 very close friend.
We are going to go drive supercars in the morning, then on to a very posh spa hotel for high tea and some pampering.
The only alcohol involved may be a couple of glasses of champagne with our high tea! certainly no boozy nights out with horrific humiliating penis straws etc!
Your hen night is what you make it!

If you want one with no alcohol then have one with no alcohol.

    Thanks Ladies,
I guess im just feeling a little 'weird' about not having the urge to go and enjoy what is supposed to be the last night of freedom. LOL.
I might just have a meal with my friend and my mum and look into some pottery classes :-)

I'm also very curious about your costume now though Steph. hehe.

Haha I'm curious too Stephanie. All I hear is the manager giggling at her desk, and I'm like 'shall I leave the room?'
I've told them they have a whole week while I'm off this week to talk as much as they like about it :P

We went to a spa hotel for my hen so spent lots of time lazing around the pool, having a treatment each and a lovely dinner. Yes there were drinks but no one got anywhere close to being drunk. Maybe you could look on something like w0wcher and find something just for you and your bestie as they have some really good deals on there. X

While I will be having a typical hen with my sister and girls from uni, 3 of my bridesmaids will been teenagers so I wanted to do something that they could join in with, so I hope to do a G0 Ap3 treetop as sultanas course and then go to get our nails done.

It can be whatever you want it to be :)

I'm having a champagne breakfast for one of my hens. I don't really drink so thought it would be nice to sit outside with close friends and family in the sun and all ages can come.

It wouldn't bother me not having a hen do but do what feels right for you x
