    Hey Gals :)

Long time no post but my course is over and I am finally a free girl!

Anyway, whilst at work last night I decided - I wanted to make my own wedding dress.

Has anyone on here ever done this, or is going through it or even thinking about doing this?

I was just wondering what people thought of the idea. I am really creative and quite particular so I thought what better way to harness my creativity than create my own, individual dress that is just what I want, without giving someone else the grief or headache! I was also considering that this way, I could make two dresses - one for the day and then perhaps one for the evening. If not for the evening, I would just wear it on special occasions with my H2Be and feel like it's my wedding day all over again!

    Any thoughts?

    Laura xoxo

I assume you've made your own clothes before? If you know what you're doing then go for it! Like you said, you can make it exactly how you want it. You could always give it a go and you can change your mind and buy one if you want to xxx

Haha! Selina... I guess all three are an option...

This is the thing - I haven't made clothes before.
I have looked online and there are dressmaking courses available in my area with some well-renowned sewing experts.
As we haven't officially set the date, even if it's another couple of years away, I was going to go to classes and use the skills on making normal day dresses for myself before I tackle my wedding dress...

I am sure most people would now think I am crazy after ^ that ^.

    xx

never made clothes before?!?! MENTAL!! lol

    saying that...

i've never made any clothes before but i'm making my flowergirl dresses and probably the bm dresses (yes, i've changed my mind about them again!!)

i've almost finished one of the fg dresses and it's amazing!! it was so easy, so i'm going to try the bms as well. my dresses are very, VERY simple tutu dresses though. not quite in the same league as making an actual dress. you'll need a good machine. maybe find a dress shape you like and use that as a pattern??

Utterly, completely bonkers!!!! Mad as a box of frogs!!!
But I'm also secretly jealous, as I would love to be able to do something like that!! You have plenty of time so go for it, would love to see pics when its done.
My dress making skills are being put to the test for the bridesmaids as they still haven't sorted it out: Brown bin liners, with dusky pink ribbon as a belt. Phenomenal lol!!!!

    Best of luck! xx

You are mad! lol All I can say is that making a wedding dress is not as simple as it seems! Take the classes but make sure you have a back up plan. I have been sewing for 7 years now and would still not attempt making my dress! I will be making the bridesmaids ones but I couldn't deal with the heartbrake if my dress didn't turn out right! Some people have a nack at making dresses, some dont, so take the classes and make sure you are confident with it first. If it gets to a year before the wedding and you dont think you are ready, then buy one. Good luck! xxx

Try making a few other dresses first before you start on your wedding dress so you have some practice? Xxx
