Hi Joanne, we are also having a church service then going to a hotel for the reception. When we booked the church we were told we would need to put the order of service together ourselves and I have no idea how to do it either. The stationary shop will do it but we still need to decide on hyms and readings and I'm not sure what order things go in. I may try to see if I know anyone who has one that they've kept to get an idea x

I think it's something you agree the details with the church to make sure the hymns and details are correct. So I would ask them.

You can find the c of e example online but the actual one you give to guests will be much simpler. Just the hymns readings and General plan of the service. The Church should be able to help you here :)

If it is an Anglican service then you can find an order of service by searching online for Anglican wedding service. That will include everything including vows and prayers. When you put the order of service together you just need headings for most of it, and words for hymns and anything that requires a response from the congregation. You might want to put something on the front cover that matches your invites. A template might be something like:

Entrance of the bride (name the music that you're walking into)
    Welcome and introduction.
Words of first hymn (if you are using the church choir it's best to get the words from their hymnbook not online, as they will use the music and words don't always match).
    Prayers.
Reading (put the reference for bible readings eg. 1 Corintians 13:1-13 and title/author for anything else, but not the full text).
    The Marriage
    Blessing of the Marriage
Words of second hymn if you have one.
Signing of the register (say what music is being player/performed during this).
    Prayers.
    Final blessing.
Recessional (again say what music you are walking out to).

The church should advise you on hymns and readings, but a safe bet for a reading is the one used as an example above. Hymns will depend on whether your guests are used to church and whether they are likely to know many hymns. You might want to play safe and stick to popular school hymns like Amazing Grace, or if you're in Wales you can't go wrong with Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehova or Calon Lan. You can also find words appropriate for weddings set to well-known tunes like Jerusalem and Danny Boy. The one thing that my Dad, a Methodist minister, always had to tell couples, was that Abide With Me, while well-known from the FA Cup, is more suited to a funeral than a wedding.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

We are building our own ceremony (doing a legal thing a couple days before) which our friend will deliver…

Trying to piece together a ceremony from scratch. Any suggestions for a non-religious ceremony??

The church should be able to advise you on this and I thought that hymns and readings would have to be suggested or okayed by them. Either google it or ask friends who wed in the church for some input or ideas
