H2B and I have not been to a wedding now for a couple of years
We have now been invited to an evening reception 3 weeks after our wedding and another wedding in 6 weeks as all day guests.

Both couples have requested money instead of gifts
My question is what do you think is acceptable for us to give as a couple to both an evening reception then the whole day wedding a few weeks later? I have no clue!

    Thanks in advance

When we have gone to evening's we have usually got the couple a £20/25 gift voucher and the Day around £30/40 depending on how close we are to the couple getting married.

The traditional rule I believe is that you should give what you believe to be the price of your meal but that to me seems excessive. When we went to the civil ceremony of a friend I think we gave £50 so £25 each. I think £20 is fair for an evening reception price. Think about how much/ what gift you would have bought them otherwise and how close they are to you.

Whatever you can afford and want to give! I only spent about £20 on my good friends wedding present because I got her what she asked for and she wasn't fussed about gifts.. just people to show up and celebrate (she's only 22 too!)

It depends on what the personalities of the friends are like... at the end of the day, do what you can afford and don't feel like you will be judged!

I think it depends in how close you are to them, what kind of event it is! 5* restaruant sit down meal vs home made church hall buffet, when we went to my sister inlaw 2b wedding we were both still kids really 19 and could not afford alot, so we got her a pretty flowering plant that was her fav, and she really appreciated the thought as she knew we could not afford alot! For day now tho i would give at least 1/2 what you would expect to pay towards the meal depending on what you can afford! For evening guests i think it depends on wether or not its a free bar? If it's not i would say £10r each if it is i would say atleast £20 each

I was originally going to ask my guests for a £20 contribution (half the cost)to their meals instead of gifts as i really want them their but cannot afford it, so my gift from them would be being able to afford them being there.
but am thinking not anymore due to my mum and parents inlaw offering to help with cost.

I would give around £25 - £50, depending on if it was the full day or evening and how close I was to them. X

    Thanks for all your answers
    It is a tricky one!
Neither are really close friends but still friends all the same
We were swaying towards £30 for eve reception and £50 for day

Looks like most people think thats the norm so happy with that

I would try to 'cover my plate' generally speaking; so, around £25 pp if it was evening only, perhaps a bit more if I knew it was going to be lavish with a free bar, and anything from £50-100 pp if I was invited to the whole day.

How close I was to the couple would also factor into it for me; if it was one of my best friends, I'd give closer to £100 pp provided I could afford it at the time; for an acquaintance/cousin I didn't know so well I'd give a bit less.
