I am considering making my own bouquets having seen some pictures of home made ones here that turned out so well. I only want to do it though if it will save a significant amount of money.
I have not started looking at flowers yet, so have no idea what a real-flower bouquet costs (on average), or a ready-made silk flower one. Also, I don't know how much the materials would cost to make my own (silk-flower), so I am looking for some advice.
Can anybody give me a rough idea please? Thanks in advance.

Look for the thread DIY Bouquet I have started a few days ago - you'll find it via the search bar. Even though the thread was started regarding non-floral bouquets you'll still find tips on floristry and where to get the stuff.

I'm getting mind from the florist but its £70 which i think is ok considering all the detail that will be going into it : lightly airbrushing sone of the flowers with silver to give it a touch of sparkle, caging over the top with grass like stuff lol, and wrapping it all in purply/black leaves instead of ribon (looks alot better than my description)

Ok, thanks ladies. I will look up the thread that LittleMissBossy started. There is quite a big price range it seems, so it's worth shopping around a bit before deciding whether to go down the DIY route.
i always thought that a silk bouquet was cheaper than real flowers but i got quoted the same amount if not more for it!! was £100!!!! safe to say im not going there!!

I can see how easily 100s and 100s of pounds are spent on all the flowers. It's crazy. But then I don't like flowers very much so I can't see the point but I understand that many people want flowers on their wedding day.

I've been working out how much it would cost me to make my bouquet, a smaller bm one, two corsages for the mothers and around 35 button holes - it came to around £60 - this was for artificial as I won't have time to make them all the night before. This was roses, with the bouquets being hydrangea, roses, stephanotis and greenery

Hello, I'm a florist. 'Shower' bouquets, which is the longer ones start from £75 in my shop and handtieds for the bride start from £45. Silk do tend to be the same price because quality silk flowers are expensive to buy these days. A lot of people do try and do their own wedding flowers these days but they don't tend to work out a lot cheaper because shops put up the prices when they hear it's for a wedding (same with everywhere). However every florist is different so shop around, good luck!

Bridezilla mine is silk and cotst £25...and I absolutely love it. Bring a huge smile to my face every time I see it! I adore fresh flowers but just felt that the price I'd have to pay was insane as none of the ones I wanted were in season either!

I was considering getting silk flowers for everyone except me (my flowers will be going on my grandads grave) because i could order them in advance but i might just go for the real deal all around. My mum is paying for the flowers and she said shes happy either way. Its nice to see the sort of price range from other brides though and it helps by saying what flowers your bouquet is made up of too.

i have found a wonderful lady who makes gorgeous and only ever ONE of the bouquet so she will never make the same one for another bride, button holes are £2.50 each, and my bouquet is not going to be more than £30. bridesmaids are having wands which are around £7. and i get to keep my bouquet forever :-) they are silk and foam i should mention.

I've been watching youtube videos. I reckon I'm going to experiment with making fresh bouquets. It might only cost me £10 to buy fresh flowers from Asda or Tesco or Aldi the day before and then the florist tape and ribbon. Worth trying...

Where do you live? Suppose it all depends on that. But if I was you I'd shop around a bit, see if you can get anything cheaper. In my shop, for the bridesmaids handtied it would be £30, yours would be £75, rose buttonholes £3, top table £30 and mums depending on what it is, start from £20... just a few prices to go by. Hope that helps, some florists just go crazy when it comes to weddings xxx
