what?! How ridiculous Tiggs! I'm really worried about rude shop staff as i'm very upfront and i'll end up making a scene! I can't abide bad manners, there's no need for it!

Thats why I was so happy to find one on that auction site, which was my exact measurements. I have no confidence so if someone wasn't all that helpful I'm likely to either cry and run out, or stand there and have a slanging match! :(

the dress i had made is custom,so it makes me feel special knowing its not just off the hanger if that makes sense,,the lady who did my alterations on the length was amazed at the quality, its silk tafetta really beautifull fabric, and the shade of pink is just right, not jordan pink mind lol, more a salmon pink,,but i love it,i got it in 2008 and even now when i take it out to air i still get a lump in my throat

The shop I went into was the same Nicci I thought frig that im not paying 300 just cos im larger than a 16 and anyway they are 2 sizes smaller than normal dresses so technically a good 50 percent of people would have to have this surcharge grr

Mine was £295. My budget was £200 so went over budget but my mum paid for it anyway! So really it cost me nothing. I will probably need alterations though.

I'm just shocked by how much people take advantage and take the p*ss out of weddings! It's hideous! £300 for size 16 upwards? Ridiculous! I know musos do it too though, and I have to say i'm quite proud to not take that approach, it doesn't make any sense, i always ask people what their budget is then tell them what i can provide within their budget, simple!

I'm quite scared about the dress fittings now!!! eek!

Sophie - yeah I was looking for a bridal shop in Leeds (or York) at one point. I tried one in Wakefield and they were the most ignorant and rude shop I'd ever been in. They were offhand with my bm and because I didn't commit to buy there and then, they were rude to me. I finished up trying the Bridal House in Leeds city centre and they were completely different. Tried the dress on (as well as about another 5 lol) - then went back the following week to try again and put a deposit down (just knew it was the right one).

Lol. I went to a dress shop in York and they were pretty rude to me til I tried on a £3500 dress and fell in love with it and my nan said she'd buy it for me.... then they couldn't be nice enough!! haha

But in the end I just couldn't justify spending that much on a dress... lol. So now I'm going for a dress that's just over £1000 excluding alterations x

I got mine in a sale from a local bridal shop for free! They had a one day sale on all gowns to clear stock- buy veil and tiara and get dress free! They only advertised for 1 day and my h2b's grandmother heard it, I thought she had lost the plot! I had budgeted £1000 xx
