where do i start, or more like where do i stop.
when we started out planning the wedding we went to wedding fairs and found the ideas for the sweetie table, and there was a few other things that you could book that i'd never seen at a wedding before, such as the outdoor games and Harpist. Now every fair i seem to go to there's more and more but when do you stop and how much is too much?
sweetie table, candy floss, chocolate fountains, ice cream barrows, magicians, pianist, live bad, outdoor games, live animals, it goes on and on.
I do love all the ideas but which would you have at your wedding and what would you think if you were a guest walking into a wedding with all of this? would you think that it was all a bit mad?

I have found LOADS of things that I love but cant have them all.
Instead ive gone for 3, one for the service, one for the meal and one for the reception that I think compliment each other perfectly!

The service I wanted a string quartet to play while the guests arrive, during the service and during the meal but was a little over our budget BUT we found a trio that basically sounds the same but costs less so we are having that.

During the room turn around and photo's we wanted something to enetertain our quests so we have a caricturist who will be there for four hours so he will also spill over into the reception for our evening guests to enjoy too!

Then for the evening we are not having a buffet just bacon rolls and a mini chip cones so we are having a lady who does fab sweetie and dessert tables! so that will open just after the food is served!

    So theres my fab 3

I think sometimes people can go over-board, and it can become a bit OTT. I also think a wedding should primarily be about the guests joining the bride and groom to celebrate, and personally, I don't think you should feel the need for extras or distractions; the guests should make the atmosphere IMO.

With that in mind, we plan on having a string quartet for the ceremony and drinks reception, as we prefer live music, and it will suit the ceremony venue, and provide nice background music during the drinks reception. We will then have a live band in the evening, and will have one of our photographers do a photo-booth type thing for a very short time. But our focus for the evening will really be on people talking, dancing, drinking, and having a good time, and we don't want too much going on (like magicians, activities/games etc) as I feel this can lead to it becoming fragmented and disjointed (with a few people off in one area, etc).

I think entertainment and so on works best with very large weddings (150+); and I would also consider some form of creche or activity if we were inviting children. But otherwise, to me, it's just an additional and unnecessary expense.

I think one way to decide is to consider the overall look/feel you're going off, and consider what will actually add to the wedding. So, if you plan on spending a long time having photos taken, you might like to consider a magician or some games to entertain your guests at that point. Or if you are having a very large wedding, and it will take a while for everyone to be seated and served, again, something like a magician could work.

Food-wise, I think one sweet option is more than enough. So think what will work, what you can afford, and what your guests will enjoy most: that might be a sweetie buffet, a chocolate fountain, a pop-corn truck, or an ice-cream van (also, think about what suits your venue and theme eg an ice-cream van would be lovely for a marquee wedding in the summer, but not so great for one in a boutique hotel in winter; a chocolate fountain might be messy if you have lots of children; a sweetie buffet is a great option if you're inviting kids; etc)

I think you sit down and prioritise which activities/events will work for your wedding. A lot of the time less is more and having too much (whilst being very expensive) actually gives the feel of cheap and tacky, hence the need to make sure it all coordinates.

We have gone for a string quartet to play for most of the day, cariacturist, live band and fireworks. I did want an ice cream cart and a chocolate fountain and the casino but even though they would be great for some weddings, it wouldnt fit in with ours, would look out of place and tacky. Therefore, you stop when you have enough to make the day as special as you like but not too much that it actually has the opposite effect of what you want to achieve. Prioritise what is important to you.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo
    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs
total loss to date: 24.5 lbs now need to maintain!

i agree with suzky i think the more you have, the more distractions besides people are coming to watch you marry the person you love there not expecting anything else xx
