    Hi there,

My honeymoon destination is Paris this July. Has anyone else been and apart from the obvious (Eiffel Tower, Disney and Cruise on the Seine) any ideas of things we could do while out there?? I'm so excited, I've already bought some gladiator sandals for the occasion!

    Paris is awesome!

I've been twice and TBH most of what I'll suggest are pretty obvious, but I'll mention them anyway lol

Notre Dame: you should definitely visit, even if you don't go to the top. Well worth a look is the treasury: the chalices and artifacts are really quite something.

Saint Chapelle: this is a few minutes walk from the Notre Dame. It is an utterly beautiful small chapel filled with stained glass windows; truly spectacular.

Berthillon ice-cream parlour: this is again a few minutes walk from the Notre Dame, just across the bridge on the Ile Saint Louis. The ice-cream and sorbets are seriously to die for; they have a shop where you can sit in and eat, or a hole-in-the-wall take-out where you can get some to take away. It's seriously a must, but be prepared to queue. Also on the island are some gorgeous buildings as well as some lovely boutique stores inc florists, jewellery and handicraft shops, and patisseries. Down the street from the take-out is a bridge across the river where you can enjoy your ice-cream while watching the boats go past.

Food markers: we went to one between two bridges, located approx 5 minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, and OMG, it was AMAZING! I would highly recommend stocking up on cheeses, fruit, breads and pastries and then having a picnic in one of Paris's many lovely parks.

Sacre Coeur: this is another obvious one, but it is seriously stunning inside, with an abundance of gold-leaf. Definitely make the trek up to the top for the awesome views.

Mont Martre: lovely area with gorgeous shops; again a must IMO, though again popular with tourists.

Rodin Museum: his sculptures are gorgeous IMO, but the setting of the museum is also lovely, particularly the garden area if you visit on a sunny day.

On a similar note, there are numerous galleries in Paris depending on a) if you enjoy art and b) what type of art you enjoy. Worth visiting are the Louvre (obviously!), the Picasso museum, and the Musee d'Art Moderne.

I'll come back when I've thought of more!

I don't blame you! I love Paris, I've been 3 times lol. I've just done the touristy stuff when I've been really, visited the palace of Versailles and the Louvre on one visit. I suppose it depends what sort of things you're into doing, I enjoyed just walking around to be honest lol. Ooh I'm so jealous, I'd love to go again! May have to drop some hints to OH lol x

We was gonna go to paris for my 30 th in October but as we've picked a honeymoon at the weekend and paid deposits it's not likely happening now ... I'd say definitely have some patisseries , the louvre for the Mona Lisa :-) , and go to the bridge where ppl put their names on padlocks and add it to the bridge...
I've never been but done so much research being a travel agent xx

No worries :-) I really did enjoy the trips I took there.

I also agree with Debbie that it's nice to just walk around and soak up the atmosphere, and 6 days is a perfect amount of time to do that. As a guide, I went for 2 days and 1 night a couple years ago, and our itinerary took in loads of sights, but wasn't too rushed; here's an idea below:

    Day 1:

Visited Saint Chapelle and the Notre Dame (didn't climb to the top of the Notre Dame though as there was a big queue and we weren't too fussed)
Bought a baguette and ate it in the park behind the Notre Dame
Got an ice-cream from Berthillons and ate it by the river
Visited the Sacre Coeur (went to the top this time)
    Had dinner and cocktails

    Day 2:

Coffee and pastries for breakfast at a local cafe
Visited the food market to buy a picnic bits
Walked to the Eiffel Tower for a photo op
Took a cruise from there down the Seine
Walked down the river bank to the Jardin des Tuileries and had a picnic there
Walked up the Champs Elysees for a photo op at the Arc du Triomphe
    Headed back to the Eurostar

Obviously if you visit museums/go to the top of things like the Eiffel Tower/Notre Dame/Arc du Triomphe it will take a lot longer, but it gives you an idea of how much you can see.

I personally would probably spend a few hours a day sightseeing, or dedicate the first half of the trip to sightseeing, and then spend the rest of the time just wandering round, enjoying lunch at pavement cafes, and soaking up the atmosphere.

Also, be warned: Paris is extremely expensive, so go prepared. A lot of the sights are free or charge only a nominal charge (eg the Sacre Coeur itself is free to visit, likewise the Notre Dame, but if you want to go to the top of either you pay a small fee (a few euros), likewise the treasury at the Notre Dame charges a small entrance fee), but food and drink are very expensive; we went out for a few drinks and couldn't find anywhere where a pint was under 6 euros (and believe me, we looked!). Definitely invest in a Metro pass; it's a great system and you'll probably use it a lot.

We were there for my birthday in the summer. We arrived on the Thursday night and wandered off to find somewhere to eat. We ended up walking through a bit of the zoo gardens. Friday we started with Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, and had lunch there, then went off to the Jardin des Tulleries and from there walked down the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. Then we headed for the Eiffel Tower via the Trocadero, which gives you a brilliant view. H2B had bought us reservations for dinner in the Eiffel Tower as my birthday present. We looked out for proposals but didn't spot any. We didn't go up to the top, as it was going to take about 40 minutes just to get to the front of the queue, but we did go to the second level. We chickened out of doing the stairs though. Being there in the evening was great as it was all lit up. Saturday we went to Notre Dame and then went to see the Opera house (he proposed when we sang a song from Phantom of the Opera). We also visited Place de Bastille which had been recommended but it wasn't that exciting. We went to the Louvre to see the pyramid, but didn't go in, as neither of us are huge art fans, and H2B had seen the Mona Lisa before and reckoned it wasn't really worth the massive queue. We would have liked to fit in a boat ride on the Seine but didn't manage the time for that.

I am about to go for the 7th time - I love Paris. Most ideas have already been said and it kind of depends what you are into- I can reccommend different eating spots. I would definately take the metro to Place de Madeleine and go to the Fauchon - the cakes are amazing particularly the fancy coloured eclairs. They have a few seats outside.
The evening cruise on the Seine was nice. Tuilleries is a lovely stroll. Louvre is nice but overhyped unless that is really your thing. There are some quirky grave stones in Pere La Chaise.
Free view over the city from the Scare Coeur (some good creperies up there - nice at night) otherwise the 3 best places are Eiffel Tower, Tour Montparnasse and the Arc De Triomphe- its great to go through the under pass and stand under the Arc De T and watch the traffic whizz by.
La Arc De La Defense is the newest part of the city where all the skyscrapers are- if you up to the massive arc you can look through the other side at the difference between rich and poor.
Champs Elysees is then nice for a stroll and look in the posh shops and car places.
    Where abouts are you staying?

I don't know yet! We are booking it over the next few weeks. Good idea on the metro pass as I knew we'd have to use it quite a bit. Love these ideas ladies, really helpful!

You are all getting me excited for going!

Hmm, Scare Coeur, sounds like a good place for a Halloween trip.
