I want to marry in the UK, but my H2B wants to get married abroad. We have recently moved away from all family and friends and I'm really torn with what to do. I believe a wedding abroad would be cheaper? But that isn't swaying my decision. I love the idea of planning it and being really involved. Has anyone else been in this position? Or if anyone has married abroad, how much input do you actually have and did you find some family members could not make it?

You could have both, get married abroad and have a blessing over here but that could make it more expensive for you doing two weddings.

Maybe sit down with your h2b and do a list of pros and cons. There is an official thread I think somewhere, I shall bump it for you. Where abouts were you thinking if abroad?

We decided to cancel our uk wedding and decided to marry in cyprus in May. We have a total of 15 in our party. The whole thing has been stress free as we have hired a wedding planner and she is great! The cost for us is much cheaper than a wedding here we also get a holiday too!
I didnt want a big wedding in the first place and whilst planning our uk wedding there was people that i 'had to invite' so there wasnt any dramas even though i hardly speak to them. This way i know certain people wouldnt be able to come (bit mean lol) but its our day and we wanted an intimate wedding and for it to be about us marrying not a huge party.
The people thar are coming over with us wr have created a fb group so feels like everyone is involved :-) HTH xx

Our uk wedding has just been cancelled (admittedly due to oh losing his job) But we are now getting married in Vegas which is what I originally wanted to do. I have pretty much organised our wedding in a week other than some finishing touches. We have our own wedding planner provided by the hotel out there and she has been really good at answering all my questions/making suggestions etc. You can still be involved in planning if its abroad. But it depends if its what you want. Im much the same as Leanne, never wanted the big white wedding and of my 140 guests I would say 80 where only getting invited because I felt I had to invite them.

Another Vegas bride here! I opted for getting married abroad because I know what I'm like and I would get ridiculously stressed out about the whole event if it was i the UK. I hate being let down by people too, and know that there would be a bit of that with people not being able to make it etc. There are a few of us going out there, and it is defiantly not cheap (around 10K), but I don't have half of the stress I am reading about on these forums lol...bridesmaids eek no thanks lol

I don't think wedding abroad would be cheaper if you take into account all tickets and accommodation for 1-3 nights. If compare it to one day wedding here it should come out cheaper in UK. However, the option of trip to $@nd@1$ - like vacation with wedding down there is an option if you on a tight budget. But not much guests then...p
