I'm a long time lurker of the forums and now I need the help of you lovely brides!
I have just realised, with 5 weeks to go, that I've not paid the registrar fees?! None of the documents I have really give any clear guidance as to when payment is due but I thought it was 6-8 weeks...! I also thought that they would send us a letter to tell us payment was due but not received anything.
Of course I will be ringing them first thing Monday but as they are closed over the weekend I just need a bit of reassurance... They wouldn't just release our booking would they?!
I've been very calm and unstressed about the whole wedding up to now but panic mode is setting in... :-)

I know there was a post on here from someone else who suddenly realised like you that they had not paid there fee's but they called first thing on monday to organise it, Its due 6-8 weeks before normaly but it does not mean that they will give away your slot or what ever assoon as it has passed.

Our payment is due 4 weeks before the wedding. They put a piece of paper in the back of our ceremony book that said how much is due and when.

Don't panic I'm sure it'll be fine (says me who has worried about everything!!). Our registrar asked to see us about 6 weeks before the wedding when we paid the fees and sorted the ceremony details. Xx

I think ours was due 6 weeks before, but we got a gentle reminder in the post about 4 weeks ago. Give them a quick ring first to check all is ok with your booking x
Ours is 3-4 weeks before the day. When we gave notice on THursday we got a 'choices' form which is about number of best men, bms, and how the whole ceremony will go, which vows weve chosen etc and our registrar said people just tend to bring that form and the final payment together a month before. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. x

Ours is due 21 days before (so 3 weeks). I'd have thought that out of courtesy they'd call you to confirm before just releasing your booking, after-all you've already put a deposit down. I'm sure they're used to couples who for whatever reason have been late paying the full balance and will be more than helpfull when you call them. With such little time before the big day, the chances of someone taking your slot for a last minute wedding (without you specifically cancelling the registrar) are really small so I dont think you'll encounter any problems at all.

My registrar has requested the fees 3months prior to the actual date, but I'm sure that lots of places have different rules & it will all be fine for you :)

Do you have your paperwork they gave you during your notice? Mine says on there when it was due, and we got no reminder I just had to write it on the to do list...but I know other people who forgot to pay and they didn't release their booking. Surely as u have paid deposit and notice they wouldnt CANCEL it without contacting you. I'm sure it will be fine! xx

Thanks ladies - I found the paperwork which says payment is due 8 weeks before, it doesn't say what will happen if we don't pay but I will give them a ring on Monday - hopefully as you all say it will be fine, thank you for the reassurance!

Hi cathy did you get it all sorted? Xx
CommentAuthorJennK
My local council now insist on taking full payment at the time of booking as they got too many people who didn't pay the full amount on time or cancelled without telling them etc.

Unfortunately I've not been able to sort it!! Rang up as soon as it opened this morning and got redirected to answer phone. Tried again a few times, then just chose a different number and tried them instead. They just put me straight back through to the answer machine! I left a message and then my fiancé tried, turns out that they are experiencing a massive back log and everyone is behind on their payments because of it! They said they wouldn't release our booking without letting us know.
So just got to wait for them to return our call now... I'm guessing we can't just go into the office and pay?

Sounds like going in person might be a good idea.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
