Couldn't find a veil subject heading! But these are (rather rubbish) pics of me trying on my dress back in October, I've got my first dress try on in my actual dress on Wednesday and also need to pick my veil at this visit. I originally tried on a shorter veil but now I've seen lots of pics recently of longer veils ankle/chapel lengths and they look stunning I think. Obviously there's lots of detail on my dress so don't know if it'll be too much if I have a long one or if I get a real thin plain one it'll show it off better? What do we think?

If it is a pretty plain veil it will look nice as the detail on your dress will show through without any interruption.

I'd go for a long plain veil but then I would as I had a cathedral length veil when I got married and love long veils x

Do they get in the way? Did you manage to wear it for long after the ceremony without taking it off? I'm just wondering because i do have a bouncy castle.. Lol but then I suppose I could pop it off for that bit!

It didn't get in the way at all, took it off after the receiving line just before we entered the marquee for the wedding breakfast.

I can't remember, don't think actually I even compared prices, I just tried lots on and decided I loved the cathedral length and ordered it. Longer the better lol.

I prefer shorter veils maybe around length to your bum and plain or simple so your eyes goes to the detail on the dress, if you did want a long one then I'd go plain so it doesn't get in the way of your dress detail. Either go plain or have one that has detail similar to your dress on. Just make sure u feel comfortable in it :) when I found the dress I asked the shop what veil they would recommend and they picked two then I chose from there x

When you go for your first fitting, try the different lengths on and see what you prefer. You may find you don't like a longer one and prefer shorter.

I agree, try lots of different ones on. I lost count of the different types of veils I tried.

I agree with the posts above: try on a few different lengths, with your dress, and see how each one makes you feel. I always said I wasn't going to have a veil at all. However, when I was shopping for my wedding dress I was encouraged to try on veils just to see how they look and ended up falling in love with the cathedral style veil. I felt like I was just going through the motions until I tried on the veil. I looked in the mirror and realised that actually I am going to be a bride; I could see myself on my wedding day which until then seemed like an alien concept. After that I knew I needed a veil, and knew that it had to be a cathedral length one. It was the same with the dresses - after looking at pictures I thought I wanted one style of dress and, after actually trying on a few different ones, ended up getting one which was everything I originally said I DIDN'T want! I don't think you will know what is right for you until you try it on and see how everything looks together.

I think a chapel length veil would really suit this dress
