    Hello,

I’m new here and am a complete and utter novice when it comes to planning a wedding so I have lots of questions, lol!

No date set yet but we are looking at going abroad to get married, my OH is really keen as he doesn’t want a big massive do here and I think I’d like it abroad too, plus it means our 2 young children will get a holiday as they’ll have never been abroad before. I think a big reason though is cost – it seems a lot cheaper to go abroad, am I right in thinking this?

A few questions – how far in advance can you book it? Money is tight so I was hoping to book about 2 years in advance (I’ll go mad waiting that long as patience is NOT something I have a lot of, but we need time to pay for it!) – is it possible to book this far in advance? Or am I better just saving up and then booking a bit nearer the time, like a year before or something?

RE: booking it – so far all I’ve really looked at it the Thomas Cook brochure (my sister works there so hoping for discount lol) – do you have to do it through a holiday company or could you just book a holiday and then do the wedding separately?(Bearing in mind I’m not very good at anything where you have to be organised, LOL).

Is it actually possible to get married abroad with a budget of about 2k? So sorry for all of the questions, I am just so clueless!

    Hi hun & welcome!

You can only book a year before if you go with a travel agent as this is when they release there packages!

We planned our budget for 3k to get married abroad & things have popped up & it's now 6k + and thats for just the two of us! If you don't go mad, I am sure it is possible.

    Where were you thinking? x

Eeek really? How did it go up by so much if you don’t mind me asking? Sorry, I’m not being nosey, I just have no idea what things cost and I’m sure there’s lots of extras that I’ve not even considered!

We both like the idea of marrying in Rhodes, Greece. I had a look in the brochure to get an idea of prices and one we liked the look of, it was about £900 for the holiday (for the two of us and the children) and then wedding package was about £650 ish? Is that realistic? Although the prices always seem to be higher than the brochure prices when you actually come to book, don’t they!

I am now fainting at the price of wedding dresses!

The holiday alone cost £3,200. Our budget also includes the honeymoon too as it is a weddingmoon so this includes private safari etc. Yours will not I would imagine lol - rhodes how lovely :-)

Sounds about average price hun x

Welcome to ukbride & congratulations on your engagement!

You have come to the right place, a lot of us have/are getting married abroad!

Its a lot cheaper to book the wedding seperatly to your holiday, that's what I done & it was perfect!
We spent a lot less than 3k on everything including a 2week honeymoon :)

I think its much cheaper abroad but like anastasia said it depends what you want.

We had an intimate but perfect wedding which was fairly cheap to most! X

we found a lovely company perfectweddingsabroad who offer holiday and wedding packages - however if your happy to do a bit more digging then find the hotel and book the holiday and then the wedding book that dierectly through either the hotel (if you want it there as most do in greece - or find a wedding planner out there or even make direct contacts e.g. church etc, with all the different people and book it yourself)

we chose to find the hotel we wanted, book the holiday and the same day book the wedding direct with hotel it worked out £500 cheaper - making a total cost of a holiday for 2 and a wedding package which included the ceromony, assistance, flowers, photogrpher, horses and carraige, meals for bride and groom and drink for bride and groom to a total cost of about £2500. we have got extras of the cake (£130) and meals for our guests at a cost of about 25pound per person for guests (25x19=500approx)
in terms of the wedding package, hotels will have set packages and to be fair they will include most things, a good tip is to go to a hotel that is all inclusive and you may find the meal for your guests wont cost any xtra.

you need to find out what you want in terms of the type of hotel and the type of wedding you want) you need to be prepared to do lots of research and in the end it will be your choice.
