We are due to get married late next year and have only booked the church & venue so far. However, we are having issues with families saying 'we need' to invite certain family members (who we haven't seen in about 10 years) & although we have said no, it is causing really nasty disputes that we feel like giving up. We are now thinking of going abroad with just our immediate family as we don't want people there we don't ever see as well as the expense.. Has anyone else had this problem before or married abroad?

do what you want to do hun , my view is if they haven't made any contact with you in over 10 years they obviously dont see you as family so why should you invite them just because they happen to be related ... if you wanted a comprimise you could invite them to the evening only

We had the extended family problem, but I just got mean in the end and only invited them to the evening. If they weren't bothered with me in 10 years I couldn't see why they should take the place of some of our closest friends. Sometimes you've just got to be tough
Who doesn't have this or a very similar problem. I think 99% of brides have this challenge.
Stand firm and be clear on your reasons.

Agree with IDL my cousin has fallen out with me because she isn't getting an all day invite tbh they couldn't be bothered to go to mine or my sisters engagement party so why should they get an all day invite to the wedding
