hi ladies, im pretty new to this site and would like some help and idea. my wedding is the 29th december 2010 and for some reason i assumed my venue wouldnt have xmas decorations up ( stupid i know), at least i thought were i would be holding my wedding breakfast would be a blank canvas like it was when i viewed it. i found out recently that there will be xmas decorations up and i may be able to take some down but it all depends on if they have a function the following day. i asked what colours the decorations would be and she said they change every year. so know i have to wait until the begining of december to find out. my theme is white, purple and silver and i have butterflies in the theme to. my problem is that i didnt want a xmas theme as xmas will have past. so how do i tie butterflies and xmas together.

sorry for the long rant but i have already bought so much already and know dont know if any of it will look right now ...help! xx

i wont wont get to find out what colours there will be at the venue till the last minute practically thats the frustrating thing. the butterfly things i have are:

    white satin butterfly ring cushion
white favour box with silver butterflies on front ( butterfly pallace confetti) , butterflies are quite suitble
some small purple butterflies on the BMs wrist corsages
    white butterfly cupcake cases
    stationary

i havent gone over the top with it but i have spent to much money to scrap it now xx

you can use butterflies for lots of things and christmas can be one of them. Butterflies come in many colours and you could use them to tie in the christmas theme? e.g. having red, purlple and silver butterflies...that will tie in the purple of your theme and the red will match the christmas theme? Only thing I wouldnt be able to tie in is the green, doesnt really go with purple I dont think.

i know that was my worry. i think because when i viewed the venue as a blank canvas i just assumed it would be that way on my wedding day ( feeling very stupid about it now). i was hoping that if i got them to take down any decorations that are in the room where the wedding breakfast will be held it might not be so bad. oh i dont know what to do or i can do xx

I think Christmas decorations would be a lovely way of sprucing up a venue but can understand your frustrations hun!!! Butterflies seem to be everywhere at the min hun, last Christmas I seen loads in the high street for decorating your tree etc...could you get something like this to put on tables etc that way you will tie in both themes...butterflies/Christmas! You could also buy plain garland and attach butterflies to these also to put on tables, around the bar area etc! Dont know how easy it would be to get pink butterflies Christmas accessorize though! Think its abit ridiculous that they cannt give you some idea on their colour choices!!!! xxx

Hmmmmmmmmm ok , surely other b2b will be inthe same prediciment as you..tis ok hiring out a venue for a wedding BUT part of a wedding is the individual tastes...ok, Xmas is Xmas..you opted for the time of year BUT if you are paying for the venue then you should be allowed to have an idea wth they are decorating it with a little before the month you are marrying in!!

    Be friendly but firm hun...

Green & purple will not be as big of an issue as you think hun. Just look at all the amazing purple flowers in the world - all with green leaves and stalks. The purple and silver against the green will look amazing and you could always use silver glitter spray or snow spray on the green to saoften it up if you think it looks too harsh. Have a look on the web for purple & silver christmas decorations or try the craft sites and make your own. You will be able to find silver butterflies have a look at floristry suppliers, I got some beautiful ones on wires which I use to make 'real' horseshoes. My first wedding was 30th December and we used holly and Ivy and poinsetters in red & white, it was very effective. Try not to worry (easier said than done) I know. Take a look at partyrama they do backdrops very reasonably priced, a nice purple one with fairylight effect. Try and see this as a possibility rather than a problem and just keep talking to your venue about what you want - its your day and you are paying after all.

thank you everyone for your advise, i think the frustrating bit is not knowing till december. my venue was offering a discounted wedding package on my date so i grabbed it with both hands as i have a small budget and its my dream venue. i chose after the 25th because i didnt want an xmas theme but like you girls have said i just need go with it and see what they will let me add or remove from there own decorations. i love the idea of a winter theme but i think its to late to change to that now.

im having purple mood lighing kitkat so that may take some of the emphasis of the xmas decorations i hope
