My mum really wants us to have a guest book at the wedding (other wise i may not have bothered) but I really, really don't want a standard, white, ivory, silver, gold, hearts, butterflies etc type guest book. Has any one seen any that are a bit more unusual? A bit less "white weddingy" - perhaps something that has a nice pattern on or looks a bit vintagey?
If any one could recommend or put details of any where on my wall - i'd very much appreciate it. xx Thanks
Lizzy.

Have you thought about a fingerprint tree? Or did you specifically want a guest book? how about something your guests could sign such as tags that you could add to a book later? I have a fingerprint tree but will prob get a small book just for people to add more than just their name if they wish - pic on my profile x

Im having a wish tree.... I've made all individual tags, like luggage tags (didnt take long with a guillotine and a border stamp) and will make a wish tree myself. The tags are all vitage style with a kind of lace cutout border. When the wedding is over, Im going to put the wishes in a book or in a picture frame..... Not a book, but slightly different I'd hope.... x

I'm not sure about the finger print tree - I kinda like the idea but my h2b thinks it is naff and i imagine my father would think the same. I also worry about it being messy.
Are there any married members out there that have acutally used a fingerprint tree?
I think maybe a book will be what we go for - or least perhaps as an additional item if we went for the tree.
What about having a big picture of the two of you and having a big boarder so your guests can write comments around the edges, this way you could frame it and hang it up rather than keeping it stored away somewhere x

im the same with guest books lizzylou, iv decided to go something completely different. im having a table with props ie large sunglasses, tophats, tache, lips etc etc all joke props etc a picture frame, polaroid frame etc and a camera on a tripod. im asking guests to pose for a picture and pop it into the box and a note to pop into another box. when i go get my pictures printed, ill be matching them up with the notes and sticking them into a book that im hoping to make.
is that an idea you would like to explore? x

We are going to have little bits of paper that people can write on and then pop in a wishing well my dad is making us. We will then use the nicest ones as a frame within a frame for our wedding photo and pop the others into a little scrap book that we can keep, would that be an option for you? xxx

That's an interesting idea Naomih thanks for sharing. I'm not sure though if I do want a photo related guest book - the ones my friend got back from having disposable cameras were dreadful as a lot of them were of peoples bums or pulling really horrid faces! I'm sure it was just her guests...lol.. but it has slightly put me off photo related activities!
I think i'm just on the look out for a really nice guest book that's not white and perhaps is a bit prettier than the usual wedding fair. Perhaps I just need to find a nice note book!

I've found mine - not what I thought at all! It will be a wooden puzzle with special characters (date, initials etc.) carved out, with a piece for everyone to sign. But I've seen all sorts. My friends just had a blank canvas that now sits on their wall, another has a book of signed polaroids... What do you like and what is your theme? What will its function be - will it be displayed or boxed away?

I don't like the finger print thing and wishing tree etc as its kind of controlling what your guests do and write. Some of my family love to be witty with their guestbook writing and that just doesn't look right on a wishing tree and if my guests couldn't express themselves the way they normally do they would feel under control and I just know they would feel a little weird in a way.
How many guests have you? I am thinking of getting one of those old Instagram cameras, a few boxes full of Instagram photo paper and a big photo album and under each picture compartment there will be enough space for the guest to write a message. They take a piccy of themselves or just a picture of whatever they want and put it in the album. It might work and it might not but it could be a laugh :-)

Yeah sorry Polaroid, don't know why I said Instagram. My brother has one and so does my mum and I'm really thinking of using one of them but I've not made my mind up. I looked this up last night and I saw someone had used an old postbox. You could have a box of paper and envelopes so everyone could write little letters and put them in your post box.

theres another idea, if your doing a photo based guestbook theme, ie digital camera. dont print the pictures out but upload them onto your computer and use the apple app 'i-photo' usually found on macbooks, iPhone, ipad etc etc basically upload those pictures and arrange them to how you like it and write up the notes they have written (or scan and upload as a picture) and then pay and they deliver it to your door. i did a generic photo album last year and its such good quality and feels really expensive.

It's a good idea Naomi but I think I prefer handwritten stuff and guests adding their own pictures in it just makes it less orchestrated by me and H2B.
I am weird cos I enjoy funny guestbook entries, I don't know why some brides strive to avoid them? As long as its in good taste its ok with me.

Have you got Pinterest? They have some amazing ideas for guestbooks! Some ideas:
- Get a poloroid camera, write all guests names down and pin them on string, every guest replaces their names with a picture of themselves/their family and you can place them in a photo album.
- Get a canvas of the two of you, and people just sign it.
- Ebay actually do some lovely handmade guestbooks. A lot of vintage ones on there.
