    Hi lovelies!!

H2b and I have been nattering today and are thinking of sneaking off to Gretna with our little puppy, Ruby, and getting married

Are any of you planning a gretna wedding or for anyone who is already married, did you have your ceremony there? There are quite a few websites to choose from, not sure who has the best deals

That's why we are saying it!! Even though we were planning on a small, intimate wedding and doing things as cheaply as possible ... it's still SUCH a headache and would still end up costing us a fair bit - living in London! xx

We got married at Gretna last August, and booked the ceremony, photography and minister through the Gretna Wedding Bureau. They're good because you can tailor the package to suit you. We could've booked just about everything (flowers, cake, videographer, transport etc) as well but decided to do a lot of it independently.

We had our reception at the Solway Lodge hotel and would highly recommend them (especially Iain, the wedding co-ordinator - we couldn't have asked for anyone better). He was great, and also told us that he could help us find anything local for the wedding, as he'd been there years so knew a lot of local people/businesses as well.

We hired our transport from Solway Beetles in Dumfries - and had a gorgeous VW Campervan. Not sure of prices now, but we only paid £250 for it. They are very reasonable for Gretna weddings though, because they're local weddings (and Davie the owner is very professional but very friendly and puts you at ease - again, would definitely recommend).

Aww thanks Mym! If we did decide to get married in Gretna, it would be just the 2 of us (plus Ruby, but can't really count her) We'd just want the ceremony, a few pictures and a nice hotel to spend a couple of nights in - simple! xx

We were gonna sneaked off and get wed at Gretna but my mum and daughter would have missed out so we felt bad and did'nt do it. My mum at 87 could'nt make the journey so we decided to stay local but otherwise we would of gone to Gretna.

LOL...there is another Gretna thread. We're having our Wedding at Gretna, we actually drove up there for the day and booked everything individually, the staff at the Famous Old Blacksmith Workshop are fantastic, so helpful, they gave us the details of local businesses and because we contacted them direct we got them a lot cheaper. We've booked into the Hazeldene Hotel and and having our reception there. We are just having a few close family and friends. So looking forward to it

Congratulations on your wedding, hope your both enjoying your new life together. I've just looked at your photos, you looked stunning. I bet you all had a fabulous day. We're having 14 guests, 16 with us two, not far off your amount. Your venue is just across from ours I think isn't. It's a gorgeous place, fell in love with it on our first visit, and can't wait to visit again, think we will be going back up for the day to check on some details in June or July, and take my Mum with us.
Iluvcakes, if you are going to get married in Gretna, go to through the Smiths Hotel to book your wedding, they are part of the company that own the original and proper Gretna Marriage Venue, they are the cheapest as you aren't paying any commission. We chose the original World Famous Blacksmiths Workshop because it was so rustic and old and it was the original room used for centuries to marry couples, but they do have 2 other rooms, it's personal preference. The staff in the Blacksmiths workshop are very willing to give you details of local businesses like a piper, hairdresser, cars etc. They recommended the Hazeldene Hotel to us and we found them very reasonably priced and very friendly. Good luck.

We were the same - fell in love with the place as soon as we visited. We first went up there for my birthday the year before the wedding (2010). We'd decided that we wanted a Gretna wedding but not booked anywhere for the reception etc. In fact the only thing we'd booked then was the venue (Blacksmiths, Linton Suite) through the Gretna Wedding Bureau.

When we went for a look there, the staff at the Blacksmiths were so helpful - and even showed us the wedding room that we'd booked, and talked us through where we'd enter, stand etc. We did look into Gretna Hall for the reception, as the Blacksmiths is in the grounds - but finished up having a meal at the Solway Lodge and that did it for us.

Iain was so accommodating and even when we just enquired, he gave us a guided tour of the full hotel and discussed all the wedding options with us. And any enquiries etc that I had before the wedding, he didn't mind me ringing up however small the question.

We drove past the Smiths Hotel while we were up there - but it was a bit too 'modern' looking for what we wanted. Tbh you can have that sort of hotel in any city - but Gretna has hotels and venues with so much character.

We visited again 3 months before the wedding, to submit our M30 forms - and finished up being witnesses for a couple 'eloping' up there lol. They'd been together for 40 years, but got divorced years ago, got back together but never remarried. They thought it was about time they did - but they'd travelled up from Liverpool without telling their family. It was lovely to be part of a wedding like that.

The Smiths Hotel is very modern, and very expensive! But you can book your wedding venue through them with no pressure to stay in their hotel, our wedding co-ordinator was Carly, she was lovely, like I say we only booked our venue (the original Old Blacksmiths Workshop) through her, and your right mym72, there are loads of lovely hotels full and character and a lot cheaper. Don't forget to go into the Blacksmiths Workshop/museum and talk to the staff, they will give you numbers of local people and you can contact them direct. As soon as you accept my friend request iluvcakes I will give you the number of Carly in Smiths Hotel and the link to the website x

Gretna Green Weddings At The Mill Forge are worth taking a look at, its just outside Gretna. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. We have decided not to get married at Gretna now due to numbers but this would have been our choice for definate

so, here it goes. we are now thinking about gretna green instead of a registry office. i have looked on the website and they offer packages just for the bride and groom and provide the witnessess which i think is perfect for me.(i suffer bad from anxiety and i think having my family around me is too much, i much prefer a private ceromany just me and my oh). anyway has anyone done this before. how did u get on. the package i have found is the romance package at the mill forge which is £445 obviously price dependant to 2017 it includes ceromany venue, 2 nights in the bridal suite intimate 4 course meal for bride and groom, bucks fizz on arrival, sparkling wine to celebrate, witnesses if required (something we need) and a wedding planner assistance.. now how did this work for you guys like on the day of the wedding not letting the groom see the dress & obviously help getting into the dress. transport is it something thats needed tp get to the ceromany, is the 2 nights stay near?. and obviously we want photography how did you choose your photographer.. and most importantly what did you do after in terms of the meal and everything else ? arghh im pulling my hair out

Sorry for the long post im trying to find something thats perfect for us and gretna green sounds just that, but not making any decisions without hearing other peoples opinions and storys oof how theirs went. p.s i have never been to a wedding only seen it on the tv so i have no idea thankyou xxx
