hi girls, just thought i would update u on this subject, some of u might know i didnt have a passport or any id that my registry office considered acceptable to give notice, so i had to apply to get my mum and dads birth certificates as they wouldnt accept just my own. i found a site and ordered them because i dont speak to my parents i didnt ask them for them but im thinking they prob wont have their own anyway! Well they r here so we booked our notice of marriage appointment, which is on monday morning, so i will let u know how it all goes after for those of u who r interested or wondering what happens. i know a few brides were a bit nervous doing this and i prob will be more so on the day, although u know everything about eachother for someone to question ur love etc is always gonna make u feel anxious! feel quite excited aswell cos other than the dress ordered, this is the only other thing we have booked/done for the wedding! it also confirms the date ive asked the registrar for aswell as the registrar is in a different district and she only had 2.30pm left for our date so i hope it holds until we give notice! x

Fingers crossed you get the date you asked for :)
It might only be the second thing for the wedding but without that the whole thing wouldnt happen so its probably the biggest part of the wedding day puzzle. Happy planning x

I had to have my mums birth certificate too because my passport was invalid.
Doing notice of marriage is nothing hun. We went in seperately, they ask you your full name, your partners full name, occupations, DOB, parents occupations, then your IDs, the place your getting married, time and thats about it. Then you sign a form together...tada!!!
:) xxx

Andddddddddddddd...you can actually hold a date if you pay £50. Its not a deposit as it doesnt come off the total price.
Thats what we did. xx

what forms of id do you need please. x i dont have a passport or driving liience. x

You can only do this 12 months before the wedding. Phone your local registry office to see if you can hold a date (and pay £50). We had to do this, as we are getting married in the lakes, but live in Mansfield. So didnt want to book our venue if we couldnt get a registrar for that date. Nightmare xx

It depends which way around you do it hun. Have you booked your venue? Because we didnt want to book the venue, if a registrar wasnt available on the date we wanted. You dont have to do it 12 months on the dot, you just cant do it before 12 months....if you get me. You can only do it within 12 months before your wedding...xxx

We're having a bit of a stress about giving notice at the moment. I didn't realise we has to do it as we're getting married in church, but becuase it is a catholic church we still have to give notice. The problem we have is that we both currently live in France but are getting married in our hometown in England. My mum phoned up to find out what we could do yesterday and apparenlty we have to be resident in the UK for 9 days continuously before we give notice! I'm a teacher out here and I have 2 weeks holiday in Feb and at Easter so it is ok for me, but H2B doesn't want to have to take almost 2 weeks leave just to be able to give notice! That is leave that he needs for the wedding/honeymoon/stag do, not to mention his brothers wedding and my best friends wedding, both within 5 weeks of ours! Not quite sure what we're going to do about this at the moment!! Everything else is already booked as we didn't realise we had to give notice! Any advice ladies??
Very happy to say I'm now Mrs Keates and loving it!

i went on my own to give notice, H2B had filled in a form online and printed it off. They didnt ask me any further questions, they just checked all the details on the forms and our birth certificates and that was it! Told only one of us needs to pick the schedule up the week before the wedding. The earliest we could give notice was 3 months.

I managed to get a provisional booking for the registrar at 21 months and they've sent us a copy of the notification saying that we have to go back to confirm and give our notice of intention to marry on or within 28 days after the 29th June 2013 to secure the date. I'm biding my time to find out what h2b is doing at that time because we have a horrible feeling he will be away and my fear is that we will lose the date. I'm hoping I can go in first and secure the date and h2b can go in seperately when he's back which we think will be the end of august. The registrar thing has been the biggest nightmare for me.
I can't wait until 29/06/2013

Hi Dolphin, it depends what kind of church - that's why I was confused! If it is a CofE church you're fine as the reading of the banns there covers the legal aspect, but if it is any other denomination you still have to give notice. Ours is Catholic which is why we need to. Still not sure what we're going to do! I'm off on Friday so I may ring our priest and ask for his advice!
Very happy to say I'm now Mrs Keates and loving it!

hi girls! gave notice in today! ur right its just the same questions asked him first and then asked me, one that did surprise me was do i think in any way i could be related to my h2b?! ermm...i should hope not! lol we had our youngest daughter with us so kinda proves its not a sham marriage and done it quick, he did forget the time though, he told her the registrar is booked for half 3 and it is half 2 so lucky they ask both of us! lol
u have to give notice of marriage to your local registry office at least 16 days b4 ur due 2 be married as it has to be put on public display for 15 days and not longer than a year b4 ur due 2 be married, as its not valid after a year from the date u put it in. its if u r having a civil ceremony, with a church wedding u dont usually have to but as Lofty has said check it out to what church ur getting married in, ive noticed churchs and registry offices all vary slightly in what their policies are so always good 2 ask.
we had our registrar booked provisionally but she said to us when we had to give our notice in by so it would secure our date, cost us 67 pounds today. another thing i didnt know is because we have said where we r getting married if we changed our mind about the venue we would have 2 put a new notice in with the new venue, and we havent seen our venue yet! lol but im not paying another 67 pounds so its gonna have 2 do lol dont know if u can give notice without a venue in mind but we did cos we needed to contact a registrar as its in a different district to where we live.
feels good having something else done and ticked off the list! another thing 2 make me feel like its actually happening!! very exciting x

because h2b and i are getting married in a different district to where we are from, and h2b and i are from different places in the country, we were told that we both had to go to our own registrys to give notice - so it would be seperately is this right? x

yeah i think u both have to notify ur local office to where u live, if its in different districts then im guessing u do it separately, as someone said earlier their h2b filled out a form and she went to the office herself so theres ways round things like that, just make sure u have double checked what u should be doing not only with ur offices but with ur registrars if they r in a different district aswell as policies vary so always good to know. becky i can give notice again if i wanted to and changed the venue but it would cost another 67 pounds to do it which i dont wanna do as its a budget wedding so im gonna make sure the venue looks good, it does on the website so fingers crossed! x
