    Hi all,

Just after some advice really. I'm attending a wedding on Saturday as a guest. Been bumped up from an evening guest to an all day one. I have a bit of an issue when it comes to the gift.

The couple have asked for money, as per the usual these days, they've lived together for a while. Me and my h2b are a bit short on funds at the moment, due to him not having much work as late, so most of my money goes on the bills. I don't want to appear stingy when it comes to giving something, but realistically we can't afford to give much. I have thought about putting a little poem or something to say that I am happy to make her any wedding keepsake she'd like (I'm very crafty, in the art sense). I've already made her thank you cards for after the wedding and sweetie jars for her flower girls. So she knows I'm up to the task. But of course I'd make the keepsake at my own expense. As well as putting a bit of money in the card, of course

    Does this sound reasonable?

    Extremely reasonable!

We asked for money towards a honeymoon, and were overwhelmed at people's generosity. Some guests chose to give gifts instead. And we were equally overwhelmed at the personal touch of mr and Mrs key rings, and a love heart shaped candle.

Not everyone can afford to give much, it really is the thought that counts. Some guests didn't give at all...we didn't expect them too either, but we were so pleased they came. Presence not presents.

That sounds perfect. We asked for money towards our honeymoon but were not disappointed if we got a gift instead, or even just a card. It's the thought that counts.

    That sounds lovely.

When people ask for gifts I think the know that some will be short on cash so find it hard to give much. Anything gifted is generous.

That is a beautiful idea though really lovely.

For our wedding we didn't ask for anything but most people gave us cash as we were buying a new house at the time of the wedding.

It doesn't matter how much the gift is the fact your at their wedding and gave anything is nice. We had a couple of guests who gave us £20.00 as our wedding gift and some where much more generous, but we werent looking for anything from anyone. so your gesture aside which is lovely i think the Bride and groom will just be happy that your able to celebrate with them and if you give them £5 then they will be grateful for it.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I just wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. Decided that I'm just going to make something for the couple and put a little note in the card to say so, so they know to expect something. Hopefully they'll like it!

I think that sounds perfect. We've asked for money but I am hoping some people will get us little keepsake gifts instead. I think thats a lovely idea xx
