Does the mum usually get ready with the bride?

I asked my mum if she can bring the flower girl to the hotel with her on the day, for the hairdresser to do her hair (hair dresser suggested 2pm for 4pm wedding), she replied "I doubt I'll have time as I'll be getting myself ready" WTF!!
I asked her as she lives near our flower girl (her granddaughter) & would be travelling our direction anyway for the wedding.
I then said I thought she (mum) would also be getting ready with us & that I thought that was tradition, she said she didn't know as on her wedding day she got ready at her parents house, so obviously they were both there anyway.

I'm a little annoyed as there is no-one else that lives near my flower girl, my brother (her dad) doesn't drive so it's not as if he can bring her to me & then go home to pick up the rest of his family. The only other option is she spends the wedding eve with myself & my bridesmaids at the hotel, but I really don't want the stress of looking after a 3 year old when were trying to get ready.

Why not just suggest to your mom getting ready with you at the hotel and see what she says..

I did she just said "I don't know", don't think she want's to leave her husband to make his own way (they both have cars)
I might suggest that she books a room at our hotel as they will be booking one for the wedding night anyway. That way they can make there way down for a 2pm check in, flower girl can be sent to our room whilst they finish off getting ready.

I always thought the Brides mum and Bridesmaids all got ready together with the bride even if getting ready at a hotel.

That would work. But if you want her to get ready with you then that's nopt unreasonable....

I'm not sure on the traditional arrangements but I definitely want my mum to get ready with me and the bridesmaids and stay over the night before with us. I have a very close relationship with my mum though, we are more like best friends.. I couldn't imagine getting ready without her.

Perhaps you could explain how important it would be for you to have her there with you to get ready? She might not have realised how much you would like her there. Picking up the flowergirl on the way just needs to sound like an added extra to help you out, not the only reason you want her there. X

my mum got ready at home then joined us at the hotel to get her hair and make up done, think she arrived like, midday though and she had my daughter the night before.

Seems like it's nothing malicious, more just not knowing what the deal is lol. Me and my mum were pretty clueless as well to be honest. Just ask your mum to get there at a set time to finish getting ready with you? I can see why she wouldn't want to get ready from start to finish, as I'd imagine getting ready at a hotel with a 3 year old to look after with people falling all over each other (at least, that was how it was when we were getting ready, me 3 bms, plus mum and daughter then turning up lol) would be a bit of a pain in the arse, with constantly having to keep an eye on her etc.

I'm staying in my own house the night before the wedding because there's no room at my Mum's. She'll have two of my Sisters there with their other halves and my two Nieces so it will be full! She has said that she will come to mine to make sure that everything is ok and help me get ready. She did the same for my Sister when she got married. I was a little bit miffed that I couldn't stay at my Mum's to start with but I think I'd much prefer to be in my own bed the night before my wedding and I'll be more comfortable getting ready on my own territory.

Perhaps do what Kirsty suggested and explain to her that it is important to you that she's there with you while you get ready and it would mean a lot to have her there. Is there any way that your Brother could stay at the hotel the night before with your Niece?

For our wedding and my sister's wedding our mum just got herself ready at the same time as trying to organise all our overseas guests. She didn't really have time to properly get ready with us even though we were in the same house.

I'm stopping at my friends house, but then she'll be driving me to either my mums house or my Aunties house (depending on what state my mums house is in, as she is moving soon and it's a fixer upper) where my bridesmaids, mum, her partner, my brother and my Auntie will all be getting ready together.

My mam is coming through to the venue on the morning, I want her there to help me get ready along with my bridesmaids. Think it's an experience not to be missed. I don't now about tradition though. Maybe just tell her you would like her to get ready with you

Its funny, I couldn't think of anything worse than my mum getting ready with me on my wedding day... haha... I do love my mum and we do get on, but we also have one of those relationships where my parents annoy the hell out of me and this would def be one of those times.. and they like to wind me up a lot and find it funny which I wont need while getting ready...... We are all staying at the same venue , so im sure my mum will be there popping In every now and then to see how im getting on.. :) Im sure your mum is just unaware that you want her to be with you , im sure she will find a way if you ask her x

our plan is that me my daughter and my son who is giving me away will stay home the night before while my OH and our younger son stay at his mums the night before with his best man. my mum is getting ready at her house with my younger sister then they are coming through to mine to get their hair and make up done with myself and my bridesmaids. transport will then take mum and bridesmaids to the ceremony venue and myself and my son will follow in our car. Thats the plan anyway.
Id just make a plan and then inform everyone of it, im sure no one will disagree, they wont want to let you down
