    Morning all

Had a bit of a rubbish sleep, tossed and turned, was really hot at one point as well. At 630ish I gave up and got up. So much for a lay in at the start of my annual leave. Oh well. Having a cuppa, then will do some chores, then body pump, home, shower, then pop to town for a few bits. My daughter has organised a party for me tonight. She's going to be doing some of th household chores whilst I am at the gym though. Ache a little after every combat last night, I think I worked a little harder as felt like vomming at the end.

Morning all- didn't get on here yesterday

Busy at work and then got free tickets for a pasha from scd dance show- it was full of year old bingo goers who clearly never get out much- there was audience participation where 3 ladies went up to dance with him- turned into an over 65s hen do- was certainly an experience! Lol

Not sure what doing his weekend, might have an impromptu trip to Devon :-)

Well, we had some crap news on Thursday, hence why I have been a bit quiet.

Mum's cancer has spread so she is going to have to have a course of chemotherapy and radio therapy.
So far it hasn't compromised any other organs but it is throughout the entire section of her colon that they removed so it is most likely in the rest of her colon, it was in all the nodules and blood vessels of the section of colon they removed.
My sister had just returned to the Falklands and is yet again not coping well. I doubt they will be able to send her home this time though!

So sorry to hear about your mum Faye. I hope the treatment goes well for her.
Is your sister currently serving in the Falklands? I'm sure they would be able to do something for her as they can be quite compassionate, the Navy were with my OH.

So we are having bacon rolls this morning, going to walk to a nice bakery and go to the gym.
Had an email from the car insurance this morning, renewal is nearly £1000! They are going to be told where to go! I can get it for £350 elsewhere, now I knew insurers were slimy and sneaky but that is really taking the p***!

Morning all. Ive got up this morning in total agony with my back because I have endometriosis. Was supposed to take h2b to work but told him just to take the car and anything I need to do I can do tonight when he gets home. Ive just paid our deposit for our photobooth & piper and going to look online for wedding cars. Cant believe how much we have sorted and we don't get married until 2018. xx

Steph, she works as an accountant for the Falkland Islands government.
They have already flown her home once for compassionate leave, not sure they would fly her home again unless mum was on her deathbed

Hi ladies, hope everyone is well. Not bren on much this week as just been so busy.

Need some advice. How do I get shop bought fresh custard to set or at least be much thicker to go on top of trifle? Never made it before. I bought a fancy w@1tr053 one but it looks a little runny so thinking it won't set on top of my trifle.

Thank you. I'll have to buy some. This is all new to me.

So tired, just cleaned both upstairs bathrooms. Won't downstairs until after guests have all left tomorrow as last time they were round they left it filthy so I'll clean it after, not that it's actually dirty now.

Got so much to sort out for tomorrow, hubby invited his dad and his dad's girlfriend over too so got them along with SIL her hubby and their 3 kids. Still not happy with FIL and his girlfriend, feel like they just take and no give. Have had them over so many times, more than I can count, for lunches and dinners, we've not had so much as a cup of coffee or tea from them. SIL has us round as often as we have them.

Hey IDL, I would say cornflour not gelatin as gelatin will set it rather than thicken it - just mix a little with water and add in in

Faye, sorry to hear re your mum, I only know too well what your going through, my mum lost her battle with an aggressive cancer just under 2 years ago and OHs mum seems riddled with it but seems to fight it with radio therapy and chemo.

She's had bowel cancer and ovary cancer. Had both removed and has recovered. She's currently on 3 month break from radiotherapy, hopefully like OHs mum, they have caught it early enough and she recovers.

It's still horrible and your mind takes over and has all these horrible thoughts, I still get butterflies every time OHs mum has an dr appointment xx

IDL just be careful cornflour doesn't make it go lumpy, if you don't trust cormflour, could try and egg yolk as that's what custard is made with so seems sensible for an extra one or 2 Woukd thicken it.

I love making my own custard, as doesn't take too long :-) xx

To me, spoon able whipping cream or like the tubs of ambr0sia custard- if you go with the cornflour just do really slowly, low heat and add a little bit at a time and whisk lots, should do the trick :-) xx

I've always had a fairly solid custard on the trifle. If you put it in the fridge ( sure you will) that helps to solidify it.

We are having sausage and mash with green beans and sweet peppers.for tea. Deserve some carbs as did a 5k run at the gym.

It's a difficult one trifl, some like fairly solid custard, I prefer I bit runnier, some like really well whipped cream, I like mine a bit softer too- anything works, still be yummy whatever you do:-)

I've made a grown up version with my own raspberry prosecco jelly and sponge on the bottom! Goes down a storm!

Silly me, I took out my box of cornflour and on the front in huge letters it actually says "for creamy custard"! DUH! How daft am I!
