Pah - never bother with my nails. I keep them short for work - much easier to type! I will have to do something with them for the wedding as they are a bit of a state!

My new colleague (well, she's not so new anymore, she's been here 7 months) has just messed up. Missed a deadline... boss has already had words with her this morning about her needing to up her game, so this is going to go down like a lead balloon. I don't know whether to tell my boss or let her tell him herself... Lots of effort by lots of people gone to waste just like that!

I always think old age is cruel if you're not physically fit. My grandfather would have been 100 years old next week - 3 March 1916 he was born and he lived until he was 96. He didn't let old age phase him and was still driving car well into his 90s - he did have to give up his licence when he crashed it! He also had a girlfriend on the go in his residential home - she used to do all of his washing and ironing for him! My mum used to cringe when they took him out for a drink - he still thought he was the ladies man (he was in his day) and would stand at the bar chatting up the barmaids! Bless him.

Ahhh that's lovely, he sounds a right character! I agree it's much better to age like that - my grandma has been in a dementia care home for 7 years, there is NOTHING there, she doesn't know who anyone is, she can't/doesn't speak, she is permanently in bed/sitting in a chair as she can't walk anymore.. it's no life whatsoever. I would be heartbroken if either of my parents ended up like that. I just can't imagine them being "old"!

I worry about my mum more than my dad. My dad has been married for 15 years and has lots of people around him, and although my mum now has a boyfriend it's not really a long-term relationship and I don't know how much of a future they have together. The thing that scares me most is my mum growing old and lonely xx

He took my sister on a cruise once - she went as his carer whilst she was doing her nurse training. Anyway, he played a wicked game on board the boat - making out that they were husband and wife. My sister played along with him - they had the same surname. On the last day the ladies were gossiping about them again and my sister stood up and said, "Come along then Grandad." and these ladies looked at them as the penny dropped, so my sister said, well what did you think we were, husband and wife!!!

I think she is 82/83? I've never been close to her, neither has my mum, so as cold and harsh as it sounds, it doesn't really bother me. It is sad for her - she was once a very intelligent lady (although never very pleasant!!) so it is sad to see someone deteriorate away until there is nothing left, but it doesn't upset me.

When she was first admitted they gave her around 18 months to live, so it's absolutely crazy that it's now been 7 years!!! They've even stopped feeding her supplements now as she is putting weight ON!

I'm not sure... I've not said anything, and I've not heard from her, but I don't know if she's told my boss yet. He's up in Liverpool today in a meeting so I'm not sure if he's contactable at the moment. I think I will leave it for her to tell him, or wait until my boss asks me. It's not going to go down very well at all!!!

From one of my theatre groups there was a lady who used to do a lot of directing. Mainly Shakespeare plays. She was also a Professor at the local university. Incredibly intelligent. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers - I do wonder if it is something to do with intelligence. My exes aunt was also highly intelligent and was diagnosed too. No chance for me then!!!!

Hi everyone. I was about to post this morning when our systems went down. been off since 8:20 till 11 so had major catch up to do.

My nan was lonely. She died at 85 and my granddad died when she was 73 (he was 72) so she had a long time on her own. My uncle always lived with her but you could tell she was lonely and didn't like being old. Its really sad but for the last 3 years she would openly say to me "I don't like being old, don't get old love" and it has put the fear into me that I don't want to live too long myself.

Doesn't look good for her Flossie. Seems to be one mistake after another. I am surprised her probation wasn't extended.

That's so sad Emily - bless her. That worries me with my grandparents too.. my dad's mum is disabled and my grandpy is her carer, so if something happened to him then she would be even more lost without him not just because he is her husband but because he is also her carer. But obviously either way round it would be horrific. My grandpy is quite fit but I always think it's people like that who are more likely to go sooner - unexpectedly. What a lovely topic of conversation for a Friday!!!

It does seem to mistake after mistake Emily. My boss phoned me this morning asking me what I thought about her and if she'll ever "get it" - I said I don't see why not, it will take time until she is fully there, but considering she has been here 7 months now she should be in a better place than she is. It's fine that she doesn't get the tough things yet as that will come, it took me a while as a complete newbie to the industry, but it's the basic things she's messing up on time and time again.

Back from the vets and it was a nightmare! Milo is terrified and was so much worse than normal. He wouldn't let the vet go near him with the stethoscope and when she tried to put the needle in he was jumping about everywhere. She eventually did it with me holding him but I have to take him back next week for a health check because she couldn't do anything! I have to take him in every few weeks too and just sit in reception to try and make him see it's not something to be scared of!

I'm very lucky that I still have all four of my grandparents and they are all in quite good health. They are between 77 - 81 but you wouldn't think it, they have all had their problems over the last few years but have got over them and are still here :)

Flossie, its good that he's asked your opinion too as you see more of her day to day work than he does.

Poor Milo Emma, our problem with the cats is that Flossie hates the car. That are all ok when they get there but taking her in the car is torture. The last time I took her I walked up. She had been attacked by another cat and had its claw stuck in her tail so I didn't want to torment her anymore.

Lindsey that's a brilliant story. You can get away with so much when you're elderly. My grandmother has Alzheimer's, but knows who most people are still. She gets confused with myself and my brothers, I'm become used to answering to my mum's name. She's 92 so we can't complain too much. Grandpa is 96 and struggling to cope with her so she may have to go into a home, but my mum and aunt are within reach to help. Durham is a lovely area, but I can understand the worry with being away from your parents. I'm in Cardiff and my family are in Northumberland and Yorkshire, so I can't see them nearly as much as I'd like.

My due date is April 23rd. I'm not too worried about the pain, I tolerate things quite well normally and I know that there will be an end to it. I'm not ruling out any pain relief though, I'd like to do it naturally with just gas and air but if I need more I can have it. I really hope I don't have to have a C-section though. Most big babies can still be delivered normally I think, it's just harder work and a greater risk of a tear.

I used to have gas and air when my arm was bad and the hospital needed to relocate it. Sent my head really fuzzy and dizzy that I fell off the bed once and every time after I had to be lying on the bed with the bars up so I didn't go dizzy and fall again.

Emm, Freddie is not too bad thanks, he's got a chest infection and yesterday did not eat or drink so they got told to take him to the walk in centre, they gave him some paracetamol suppositries to take if they cannot get some of that into him to help keep his temp down. I told them both if he won't drink from a cup or bottle to get it in a syringe and drink and put it into his mouth that way.

Yep I think I will do.

Just been told that hubby is djing at the party tonight, that means I shall be stood around like Billy no mates as I don't really know the others at the party, the party girl will naturally be with all her friends. He never mentioned it at all to me, even when talking about it. He was on his laptop and I asked him if he was and he said yes. If the peeps go out who are at the Ann summers party before hand, they won't be allowed in as they are not invited.

Got a few of the bigger things from M0th3rc@re today. We've got a car seat that was on offer for £35 (half price). The car is too old to take isofix, but we couldn't have done much better really. We also got new mattresses for Moses basket and cot, and a changing mat, as those were the things that would have been awkward to carry back from the City centre store. I still need a changing bag, sheets and a snoozie (sleeping bag), which I'll get in town. I also need to sort through all the clothes that we've been given to see what gaps there are, and maybe look at a couple of nursing tops for myself.

Evening All, Been busy working as usual! why do my 2 weeks off go so quick and 2 weeks at work drag haha! My last 2 week shift any way go on to 1 week on and 3 weeks off need to spend more time with the husband. doing practically 14 hour days at the moment as one of my clients in hospital and means it has dropped to 1 carer placement someone popping in in the mornings and evenings but breaks not covered so need to be alert when go for a break and pop back down half way through to sort medication! Also hospital visits daily. luckily hospital isn't too far away.

Have a good weekend everyone xx

Had a lovely day out in Matlock today with the boys.... Arcade games, 2p machines, fish n chips, ice cream, fresh air and lots of giggles.
My sister and nephews came too which was lovely

Called at the green pharmacy and picked up my new anti biotics, hopefully these will work this time without making me poorly!

OH on nights in Manchester tonight so I'm gonna have an early night once he's gone and a total chill day tomorrow!
