Most people moan on here about the in laws or bridesmaids, me I'm moaning about a friend and her mother they will both be at the evening reception not the meal/ceremony and they know this as we just can't stretch the budget that far. I was talking to them about favours they no someone that works in a brewery and he has agreed to get me the guys miniatures when they are on offer which I great save me some cash not a huge amount but I'm still grateful.so we got talking about the girls and I said a wanted a candle or now was considering a compact mirror and then the mum nots out with Jacs (my friend) will make you bracelets for the woman and it won't cost you that much and that can be our gift. I'd pay for the materials and their time would be the gift. I felt really awkward for one thing I don't want bracelets I wouldn't wear them and neither would a lot of my friends so I'm paying for them, and the other I said I wanted candle or bracelet not flaming jewellery they drive me nuts, I used to spend a lot of time at their house in my teems/early twenties I'm now 31 years old and the friendship just isn't what it was back then and I don't want people being able to say 'I paid for that' at my wedding. Sorry I just had to get that out. Most people are giving is cash which is great as we have lived together 8 years by the time we get married and will come in handier than a toaster/kettle etc.

I sound really ungrateful but I'm not I'm grateful for anything anyone gives us and that's not why we are getting married. I also understand that they are just trying to help me cut cost which is grate but it's not what we want.

I considered not doing favours but the parents and siblings almost had heart attack so I changed my mind but want to keep them to about £2.50 a head.

It's not stingy at all, you do what you want for your wedding.

Just sit her down and say that your not sure you want them for your wedding as not everyone wears bracelets, at the end of the day its your wedding and you should have what you want, if she's a good friend she will understand.

I love your idea of the minature bottles for the men, might pinch your idea. xxxkatie xxx

I'd say bracelets are a bit of a personal preference and you want something more generic
We just went for chocolates plain and boring lol

Be honest. Dont let someone else dictate to you what you are having on your wedding day. Hopefully itl be the only time you do it and you dont want to have any regrets. People will try to take over etc but put your foot down and have what you want. I had a situation with flowers (not quite the same because my friend wasnt being pushy) I nearly had something I didnt want because I was too afraid to say no but I did say no and now I am having real flowers, my friend is still my friend and understood completely and now I am having what I want. Hope you get it sorted and they dont ruin the planning for you xx

You could say that some other, anonymous person has gone and bought the candles for you, without being asked to!
So, you don't need to bracelets after all... Plus it'll save them a job :-)
(Not sure if that's a bit sneaky?)

You can get scented candles relatively cheap, then you can bag them yourself, either using the clear cake pop presentation bags (20 for £1) or large, clear with white daisies and silver ribbon presentation bags (20 for £1) from the world of pound - its what I put my favours in

Another little favour you could do, which is £1 a head and also helps others! A donation has been made in your honour to a chairty of your choice. Thats what I thought of doing and I am going to do, that way they get a little badge but you help a charity at the same time :)
