Im going to tackle the decoration of our wedding cake this afternoon and next week.

Im making some sugar paste roses, but i wanted to know - do i put them straigt onto the cake or do i wait for them to dry then put them on?

Bit of a silly question, but one im not sure of!

either or. You can dry them in something shaped (like an apple box thing from Asda for example as it's curved and gives a nice shape) or put it straight onto the cake and to keep it nice and 3D and flower-like put some roll up bits of tissue under the petals till it dries. Are you using sugar paste or flowerpaste? Have you bought it yet I'd much advise flowerpaste. And if you can get some get some petal dust, small amount on the edge of the petals and a small dab in the middle of the rose of the same colour as your icing (or slightly darker) will bring it to life!

if you need to fix dried roses onto the cake just let down some sugarpaste to the consistancy to royal icing. To do this add a smidge of water and beat the **** out of it with a metal spoon or something and it'll go runny. Then just stick a blob of that on where you want your roses and it'll dry like glue. If you're fixing the roses straight onto the cake then just put a bit of water on there and rub it a little to aggrivate the surface which it'll make it like glue. You *could* do that to attach the dry roses, but it'll be more secure doing it the first way. That is of course assuming they're not wired and not being stuck into the cake, in which case it's obvious how to do it
