Hi Ladies... I apologise in advance for my rant that i am about to have....

I went to a wedding fair today with my cousin... We are both getting married.
We spoke to a few suppliers (photographer, etc)...
Then they asked us when we were getting married... My cousin replied "November 2014" and they took an instant interest in her... Then they asked me and i replied "January 2015." and i couldnt of felt any less important!!!!
They basically totally blanked me from then onwards... Paid more interest in my cousin...
Yeh mine is the year after but it's only 2 months after hers.

I feel really disheartened and a bit upset by it all. I even got the "Oh your starting early," comment.
Do they not understand that people like to be organised as i'd rather book early so i'm not stressing over money.

Feel really sad... sorry for ranting but the other half doesn't understand, haha xxxx

i had a similar experience at a wedding fair and im getting married in summer 2014 (not set an official date yet) some people are just plain rude, i wouldn't let it bother you though the more prepared you are the better chances of your day going without any hitches xx

Apparently they can't read a calendar, a lot of places have this pre-booking rule that they only book two years out. However, the most popular places are generally booked for two years so you'd only be able to make reservations for your date or later.

Aw sorry to hear tthey weren't very helpful :/ but I have found anyone who iis like that is never someone you really want to be part of your big day. As we have been to loads of wedding fairs and when we first started there was lots who just went here's a leaflet or felt awkward talking to them but we have now found most things we need and it has all been people who are lovely and feel relaxed with please dontt be put of try go to a few different ones because not everyone will be like the ones today. Good luck with your planning x

I wouldn't let them upset you. We only went to one wedding fair when we were planning, and hated the whole experience!! We felt like we were getting the hard sell (we went about a year before the wedding).

I even booked an appointment with one dress shop - and the owner was lovely on the day. But she was completely different once she got me in for my appointment - she was rude, lacked customer service skills and was really rude to my bm because she's a plus size and because we wouldn't buy from her (it was our first dress shop).

We filled in a form for a prize draw while we were there, ticked the box for no third party companies to contact us - and I'm still getting junk mail/email even 15 months after the wedding!!

At the fashion show the only models they could use for the dresses were around 16-18 and around a size 4-8 - so definitely not for real brides!!

If I were you I'd ask around the ladies on here for hints/tips and places for things because IMHO wedding fairs are a pain lol.

I found that most of the people at wedding fairs are just after money and nothing else! I went with my mum and best friend a few weeks ago. She is engaged but doesn't have a date set yet and is looking at middle 2015/2016 and I am in 2014. However, when we went to any jewellery people I was completely ignored as soon as they found out I was looking at 9ct gold and she was wanting platinum! You could just see the pound signs light up in their eyes and from that moment I didn't exist to any of them! So in my opinion wedding fairs are great for ideas, but I would never actually buy anything from them! xxx

I'm also not a massive fan. I went to a couple and found the vendors pushy, the freebies crap, and if you wanted something different from what they were offering, they would reel of a list of why your ideas wouldn't work and how it would probably spoil the day.

Best one we had was a car hire company. They came over to us and I said we weren't looking as both me and h2b are stopping at the venue the night before. They then said:

'in that case, what most brides do is hire a car to take you and h2b for a ride for an hour during the champagne and canapés so you can spend a bit of time together after the ceromony'

I was like, erm, right, so when will we get the photos done before the wedding breakfast, plus I would like to actually see the guests during the champagne and canapés bit, also I will be spending some time with my husband on our wedding day and it won't be in the back seat of a car thank you very much!

And they want three hundred quid for the privelage...

I found the whole experience quite depressing. It was like having thirty pushy aunts saying 'you need to have this, this and this for your wedding' and 'oh, you can't do that..'

Thinking about it still gives me the shivers! Xx

Although I can see the pushy side (tshirt printing at £20 a shirt as wedding entertainment for the kids?!), we did find our cake lady at a fair, and as she works from home probably wouldn't have come across her elsewhere. Cakes delicious and she was really excited by the idea of the penguin cake topper we want.

JemmaH22........ its 2013 in approx 8 weeks time, so its closer than you think...
Suppliers should be grateful for the interest you are showing. Maybe they havent yet got price lists up for 2015 and darent risk you booking them NOW, then they would have to honour 2012-2013 prices.?
Your friend is 2014, so maybe they dont mind booking her and holding the prices they have at present....but they MIGHT have thought your weddings was a lot further apart.....(theres a possibility of it being 23 months apart....jan 2014-dec 2015) I bet if you had said.....its only 2 months after hers.....they may have treated you differently.
But thats no excuse for rudeness, and they dont deserve your business..... and I am not taking their side, just saying they may have thought you have got a long time to go yet.

I wouldnt worry about it we got told the same when we went to our first wedding fayre.

There are good wedding fayres and bad ones. I would just go to a few and go from there you dont need to tell them when your getting married. I always say im just looking unless I really like the person.

I booked my venue in 2011 and they honoured the room price but said that 2013 prices for food and drink might go up. I got an email from my venue that they are going up but if I wanted to chose from this years food and drink thats not a problem.

Are you have a big party here after the wedding?

I found some useful things at wedding fairs, found our cars there and got a good deal. I watched the catwalk shows with mum and we made decisions on their outfits based on what we saw, so they are helpful in some ways, I agree that they dont want to know you if its too far in advance but then the opposite is Ive apparently left it all too late with the 8 months I had to go when I went to my last fair in September?! Make your minds up guys lol

Thanks for your messages girls... I'm feeling alot better today :-)

MrsK2b... I'm not getting married abroad... I'm getting married in Lincolnshire... Although I live up near Liverpool.

I don't think there are many more wedding fayre's now this year so i'll wait til next year before I try another one. Maybe then i'll get more interest.

I'm mega excited about the whole idea of getting married to my other half and he's letting me get on with it... Hahaha! I told him all he has to do is help pay for it and turn up on the day and i'll sort everything else so I can have it the exact way I want haha xxx

You clearly are not the best if your laugh in potential client s face' This DJ at a wedding fayer high fived me when i said that. Should of seen this ladys face. Why should we all have to put up with that..

lol, Why should us handwork organised Brides and Husbands 2b have some stranger laugh in our face. I met our DJ at a wedding fayre he was like ' i love the face your organised ' IF i get that wow thats far in advance i just roll my eyes and give a sarcastic smile ( ive become really good at those :) ). My OH called me a bridezilla ( In a Joking Way) because of the way i respond to stupid comments from Company's.. The best company's i find are the ones who get excited about our wedding. And dont suggest what i need lol.. My OH also gets a little bit of stick for going to wedding fayres. They say being dragged along are we, my other half says no, its my wedding aswell, I dont know if i go there for wedding or just to annoy the vendors haha

That's shocking, my oh has been to all the wedding fairs with me and never had any comments. I agree about liking the one's who just get excited with you, I spoke to someone about venue decoration and they were adamant I needed this package because it had everything I needed, I pointed out it did have everything I needed but it also had a load of stuff I didn't want.... they insisted I did want table runners as the tables would look bare without them.

In the end we went with another company who I spoke to and she just basically priced up what I wanted, suggested I look at some things I wasn't sure if I wanted or not but didn't add them as she said wait until I decide and her stuff looks a million times better then the others anyway.

It's very silly of them and not very business savvy. Anyone who knows anything about business, knows it's not always immediate cash flow that makes you successful. Treating all potential clients well, is an investment
