Was just wondering if anybody was having a father daughter dance at their wedding and if so when were they going to do it etc? Was thinking about doing one with my dad but wasnt sure if would do it straight after my first dance and if the dj would announce it etc
Any advice

We had one. It was a very special moment as I'm really close to my dad, bit of a daddy's girl. We did our dance straight after the first dance, it was announced by the dj.

I definitely want one but like you I'm in two minds about when to do it. I think traditionally it's done after the first dance, but I also kind of like the idea of having it with my dad first and him passing me over to OH for our first dance... I know he would have already "handed" me over during the ceremony though. Not sure...

Traditionally you would have the father-daughter dance before your first dance because the idea behind it is that the father does his last 'duty' as your father before handing you over to your husband halfway through who then takes you into your new life - similar to the walking down the aisle idea really. Personally we didn't do either a father-daughter dance or a first dance! x

I chose a song that's different but special to us. It's a song that I embarrassed my dad with by singing it suddenly in the middle of a shop when I was pre-school age - Johnny Cash! Lol! Funny because he told the story in his speech and had everyone in stitches.

I had one at my first wedding and after the first dance. So glad I did. It was the best thing ever. He died 3 months ago so won't get to do it this time

My dad doesn't really dance so we won't be doing one specifically. I'll probably pull him out of the crowd at some point in the evening to dance with but it will just be with everyone else on the dancefloor, not a big seperate thing. X

I had my dance with my dad straight after my first dance, and the DJ announced it. I'm really glad I did, as I am very close to my dad and, apart from the time driving to the church, was the only time I got alone with my dad all day/evening. He also used the dance to tell me some "pearls of wisdom" to having a good marriage, say he proud he is, etc. It was really nice. My sister didn't do a father-daughter dance and regretted it.

I had a bit of a weird choice (sounds kind of country which is not mine or my dad's thing normally!) It's 'Daddy's Girl' by Katey Segal.

Ring of fire by Johnny Cash. There's a story behind it so means a lot to my dad and I.

hardest part is finding a song whichis appropriate as some of them are a bit too romantic which awkward with your dad lol x

There is a beautiful song by heartland called I loved her first- it's a bit country American but I love it- we are thinking of having this song and then in the background a video wall of photos of me and my dad from when I was born to now- or do a crazy medley of songs like the birdie snag, agadoo etc lol xx

I think the choice of music depends on what your father loves. I think this dance primarily for him

It should be something special for both bride and FOB.
You could ask him what he'd like. Alternatively I chose the song as a surprise but at the same time it was perfect for us and I knew it. My dad loved it.

`My Dad passed away in 2004, I was 16, so I wont be having a dance after "the first dance" I'd have so loved to though. Guarenteed tears from me everytime.

Is your mum still around and are you close? If yes then you could have a mother daughter dance instead x
