What are your reasons for getting fake vs real flowers and vice versa?

I personally have said I want fake from the beginning - mostly for the cost but my mum wont let up on the fact I 'should' be having real! She keeps going onn and onnn that real look better (I personally don't agree and think they both look fab!) and that I will prefer the smell as I'm walking down the isle (again not fussed!)

Not too long a go, I had a wasp incident where by it flew up my dress and stung me 11 times around my thighs and knicker lines and the reaction lasted nearly 2 weeks and a further 3 weeks on, I STILL have bruising! For me this sealed the fact that I don't want real and don't want to risk that on my wedding day! But still she carries on with her reasoning - this time that wasps are more wound up at the end of summer than what they will be in mid june!

So what are you having and why?

I got fake so everyone could keep them afterwards, I got them on the bay, a friend put them together for me and probs cost about £20-30 in total for everything, mine, 4 bridesmaids and 7 button holes.

I had real, love real flowers and for my wedding day there was no questions about even considering fake. I knew exactly what flowers i wanted as they are what I had always dreamed of having when I got married.

That said I have nothing against fake flowers and even have a few fake flowers arrangements displayed around our house and I absolutely love them. Amazing value for money, no mess, look fab!

I want real, just as I've never really liked fake, I've never seen any that I like the look of, but to me it's personal to you and as you've had a very painful unfortunate incident I can see why you are opting for fake, it's your day so do what suits you. I'm sure they will look stunning and your mum will then see that actually it makes no difference at all :-) xx

I am having artificial. Whilst I like real flowers they have never been something that is very important to me and I knew right from the start of the wedding planning process that I would get artificial flowers. They are a lot more popular these days and I think that is something the older generation do not realise.

I like that my bridesmaids can keep their bouquets forever as a momento of the day and I can also keep mine forever :)

Also got them for a very good price, much cheaper than I would have got real flowers for. I paid £85 for my bouquet and 4 bridesmaids bouquets.

I'm not a fan of the brooch bouquets to be honest. I do like the thought of keeping my bouquet, perhaps dispaying it at home somewhere too. I think me and my mum just have different views on the whole wedding day. I want my religious church wedding (which she also had) but I want modern, fun, and lots of partying. she is trying to sway me towards traditional and formal so we seem to be clashing a lot lol!

I'm having real, purely because I love flowers SO much, and want to be surrounded by them! Our theme also is loosely based on 'The Secret Garden', so I doubt it would be plausible to have fake flowers. But I've seen some beautiful fake ones at Bridal shows, and had to look twice to realise they were fake!
But, I love the scent of real flowers, and I personally feel that they add to the atmosphere of the day, especially if they are your favourite flower for example!
Also, I don't believe the price difference is even that different these days, it's mainly that you get to keep them afterwards if they're fake, unless you want to spend a pretty penny getting them preserved. X

I just read some of the other comments and think those Bridal shows may have been trying to mug me off when telling me prices of their fake flower bouquets!! Can't believe how cheap some of you got your arrangements! Clever ladies! X

Everyone has their own opinion about what sort of flowers to get. I'm personally prefer artifical flowers because those who have flowers like the bridesmaids, best men, page boy etc can keep the flowers. Me and H2B likes the idea of keeping the flowers so we can use my bridal flower being it's just a standard bridal bouquet as our table decoration and he can keep his buttonhole for keepsake. Also, keeping our little page boy's buttonhole as well being the page boy is our son. It's up to you whether you have real or artifical because it's your choice. I wouldn't blame you for having artificial flowers because of the wasp incident but either way it's your choice, don't let anyone tell you how to have yours and your H2B's wedding. I know your mom is trying to give you some advice which is good because she's your mom and she wants the very best for you but don't let her control your wedding

We are having real, partly because I wanted lillies because of their amazing scent but also partly because OH studied landscape management at university and he said he really wanted real.

Some fake flowers can be really true to life. I would love to keep my bouquet post wedding but I want a shower bouquet and I have no idea how you would display that! X

We had real, love flowers so never even considered having fake. I dried and pressed some stems from my bouquet and a centre piece to keep forever. I loved the smell and the look and I don't think I could have got that from fake.

I think I'd quite like fake, maybe a brooch; paper or silk bouquet. It all depends on the detail on the dress for me.
My future MIL didn't look impressed when I said I would like fake. I thought it would be nice to have something pretty you can keep. I'm sure there are pros and cons to both !

I had artificial. Partly it meant spreading costs because I could buy them well in advance. It also meant that I avoided the worry that both of my SILs had of getting the bouquets on the day. The main thing though was that I could keep them without worrying about preserving them.

I'm going to have real flowers for bouquets, flower wands and for the top table, but artificial ones for the birdcages that will be centre pieces as works out a lot cheaper.
