I'd just like to share some wonderful news that has just come through today!!! As of 10th December 2014, any couple in or going into a civil partnership will be able to upgrade their CP by signing a declaration form in front of a registrar which means that if we end up having to have a civil partnership at our church then we can upgrade the same day now if you want too .. Yay for equality!!! xx

That's fantastic news Catherine and about time they made that decision as well, I think it's ridiculous that they couldn't be upgraded before.

Thanks ladies! We are thrilled for us, everyone else and the rights of the LGBT community :) another step crossed off! The more equality we have the closer we get to loosing the prejudice and hate of being 'different' in some peoples eyes! X

Forgive my lack of knowledge - that sounds great, but what does being upgraded mean exactly? Does that mean you can go from being in a CP to being married, or is that not legal yet? x

Basically means that anyone in or having a civil partnership still can now change it to a marriage should they so wish :) xx

Fantastic! So presumably you can have your church wedding even if they don't decide to allow homosexual marriage, it just means one extra step. Hopefully it won't be necessary though.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.

They still allow cp's, they always did and if we want we can do that then upgrade, we are waiting until the 6th when we hear back from the assembly's decision :( one day love will be love for everyone! Xx

It does mean though that you can be married that day, with a church service, regardless of the decision. It would be brilliant though if you can do it without the extra step, like others do.

It does..... But it feels like a kick in the teeth. It's like saying to the suffragettes thanks for all you've done but we aren't going to bother voting. It's horrible to be in this predicament because we are pulled both ways, half would jump at the church but there's a niggling bit saying it's not a proper marriage if that makes sense?

Yes, I can see what you mean. Better than nothing but not what you want. I do hope the URC vote to allow marriages in their churches.

Us too, are nerves are shot to pieces waiting for next Sunday! It can't come coming quickly enough tbh. The rev has said he will ring us as soon as he has the result as he will be there... Sadly he can't vote but he can talk on the matter along with all the others in favour.. I would say it has a fair chance of passing through as long as the Methodists don't dig their heels in (no offence!). I think what will probably happen is that they will pass it but then leave it down to individual churches as to whet here they want to opt I'm. Threat won't be a problem though as ours has already voted and agreed on it that they want it so now it's just a week long wait!
