Hi when I purchased my dress it was a little too tight but booked a seamstress for alterations to take it out and adjust length, I tried my dress on today and I could only zip it up less than half way, my dress is a size 10, has anyone ever had a corset back put into their dress and how much did it cost? I'm still comfortably wearing my normal clothes and hadn't realised I've put any weight on so I was in complete shock when trying my dress on today, thanks in advance for any advice x

Hi Natalie. I suppose you do still have time to lose some inches and tone up if you want to.
When is your seamstress booked for - can you change the appointment if needs be?

I don't know about changing the back to a corset, you should probably just check with the seamstress and she will cost it up for you.

I have not had one put into a dress but I think it is doable. Unsure of costing.

It is possible to build a corset back into a dress, it will however be very expensive as the back of the dress will need taking apart, reinforcement and even potentially more fabric or a lining put on any lace at the back.
Bare in mind that it isnt just a case of getting the back done up, if the dress is too small sleeves wont fit, the seam in the skirt or underskirt will pull tight causing unsightly lumps etc.

You have time to diet before your wedding

The seamstress may well be able to take material from within the dress to let it out. A lot of the time there is excess material that can be removed and put elsewhere. Five months is plenty of time to drop a dress size though without needing to crash diet. You might even be able to drop two. I used the eating plan from the NH5, which you can find if you g00gle NH5 weightloss. It involves 1400 calories a day, and 150 minutes of aerobic exercise a week, which works out as half an hour on five days. They also suggest two sessions of strength exercise a week, which could simply be gardening or heavy housework. You can print of weekly charts to log everything, and because you record your weight every Sunday it helps to avoid the temptation of bingeing over the weekend. I certainly found it very effective in the run-up to my own wedding.

Thank you everyone for their advice, weight loss isn't really an option I'd like to go for, I'm a very slim build as it is, normal size 10 clothes are a little in the big size for me and being tallish losing more weight would probably just make me look ill Lol and in weight I haven't actually gained anything which is why I was shocked when we couldn't zip up the dress, it fits fine everywhere just won't zip up as it comes to my chest, I have spoken to my seam stress today and brought the appointment forward to work out all options and to see if she is able to put a corset back in, so fingers crossed I won't be shopping for a new dress, what a stress!! Thanks again everyone x

Hi, I had this exact problem with my dress. I'm lucky as my nan was able to change my dress from a zip to a corset so I'm not sure how much it would cost but I know it can be done. My nan was able to do it for me very easily to be honest and she isn't a professional dress maker :) She didn't need to do anything to my dress.. It was just taking the zip out, putting corset rings in it's place and making the modesty panel! Xx

Hi, I don't think you should loose weight at all as you are a nice healthy size :). I don't know about a wedding dress but my bridesmaid dress came far too small for my teenage bridsmaid. The seamstress managed to put a corcet back in for her and it fit perfectly :). I'm sure you sestresd will have a few options for you. Xx

If you dont feel you need to lose weight then maybe it is more a case of toning up.
Maybe join a gym and concentrate on toning the upper body that way you may lose a couple of inches off the top but not lose weight.

It certainly doesn't sound like weight is an issue then. Maybe the shop have made a mistake in the measurements when they ordered. A good seamstress should be able to sort it out though.

Speak to your seamstress as they should be able to advise what they can do and how much will cost, hope it gets sorted soon for you x
