Me and my oh have decided to double barrel as my daughter is Hewitt and our son is warmisham and we don't want my daughter to feel left out growing up with us all having warmisham and feel changing her name should be her choice so going with double barrel to keep her a part of us if that makes sense lol only thing is the oh parents think it's a stupid idea and Heidi should just get used to having a completely different name from her mum brother and the man she calls daddy
Has anyone else considered double barreling? And what did people say? X

Hiya, my daughter is a bit older now (13) and has a different dad to the man im marrying. She has chosen to double barrel her own name Brooke Simpson-Barratt, my married name will be simpson, and her dads name is barratt. Her words were "it will make me part of our family if i have andys name like you" H2b is thrilled she's chosen to take his name too. H2b's parents have no say in the matter so were never asked. Im getting married to create a family, and i wouldn't leave a child as the odd one out :) xx

We are double barrelling, so we will all have the same name. It makes sense to us, as we will be a family, so we should all share the same name. No one has really given us their opinion on it tbh and I think its a bit unfair of your OH parents to suggest that your daughter should have a different name. If your OH is fully behind the idea, I think you should go for it and just ignore them.

I think you should do what u want, ppl will have an opinion regardless so if you think it'll make your daughter feel more involved family wise then go ahead, some ppl really do know how to bring a downer on things don't they x

My OHs son was the one to de double-barrelled, so as to have the same surnames as his dad, and his mums married name too.
You could change your daughters name perhaps? Then when she's older, let her make her own mind up about if she wants to change it?

My oh is taking my surname after we marry. His surname doesn't mean much to him as his dad was a waste of space and my children have my surname so it just seemed to make sense.

Imagine how your oh's parents would feel about that one, lol

I think you should go with the double barrelling, this is your family not theirs. They are classed as extended family and will have to just get used to that fact. How does it affect them at all? The answer is it deosn't! BIG HUGS sweets xxx

my h2b parents didnt like it when we double barrelled our eldest when he was born, we kept telling them that my name runs out (my name traces back to Cain - not something i wanted to lose) when we told them that my brother has a different name & my uncle is infertile from having mumps so young, & that we are naming our children this whether they like it or not, they had no choice, they are still unaware that h2b will be double barreling via deed poll before we get married then i will take his new name so we will all be d-b'd it was a conscious decision made by us 6yrs ago, its them that will have to get used to it, not us

I've been thinking about this as my daughter has a different dad (hate saying dad,I always call him sperm donar having saw or head from him since I was 6 months pregnant and she's 9 today) I was decimate that I don't want her to take h2bs name only because I feel like that was the name she was given when she was born and she's used to it,a friend I had at school her mum was always going from 1 relationship to another and changing her name everytime and I remember her saying that it confused her so much growing up that she wishes her mum had just left her name the way it was until she was old enough to decide herself. So I think I may just leave Paige's surname how it is and then when she's older if she wants to change it that's fine, although if anything I would consider db-ing. It's entirely up to you what you want to do and just ignore what they have to say,it has nothing to do with them :) xx
