    Hi all,

I had booked my local hairdresser and beauty therapist for my hair and make up (and 2 x bridesmaids) for the wedding, they have now cancelled as beauty therapist now left and moved away. I found a well known hair and make up company but they want almost £500 for the 3 of us. I would like to attempt my own make up but worry that my nerves may make it look like a complete disaster and if i did my own hair it would be a very scruffy pony tail.

What is everyone else doing and what kind of prices are you expecting to pay?

I had my hair done by my hairdresser. It cost me £70, my youngest daughter had it curled at home, same with the step daughter, my other daughter had it done at the salon only because she was also due a haircut as well so it was all in one. My MOH paid for her own and had her makeup done. I never had makeup done as I wanted to look like me on the wedding day, not with makeup done how I would never wear it.

£500 for three make up and hair?? In my opinion that's a total rip off!!
I've booked for a girl and her team of hairdressers and make up girls to come to my house, for myself hair & make up, 4 bridesmaids hair and make up, my Mum hair and make up, two flowergirls hair and also myself and a bridesmaids hair & make up trials - all for £320. That includes the cost of their travel for petrol expenses as they all live about 20 miles away.
You could check out your local college for hairdresser and make up students who may be able to do it for a good price.
    xx

Amy, I thought it was a tad over the top as well, but was unsure as I never had anything like that done.

My hair & make up wont take that much time as I want minimal make up and my hair just as natural as possible all down.

I guess you could look at u tube videos on applying make up or for hairstyles and practice til perfect! But to take stress away on the morning you're better getting other to do it. But don't pay £500 for it!

I paid for mine, and had both hair and make-up done by the same people. If I remember rightly I paid £80 for the trial and £100 on the day. I said to my bridesmaids that they could pay to have their hair and/or make-up done by the same people, but that I couldn't stretch to it given that I wasn't asking for any particular style from them. They all opted to do their own. It really depends on how confident you are. Both my sisters in law did their own make-up, and both had their hair done professionally.

I could never have done my own as I just don't have the talent to get the look I wanted. Try local beauty schools, you'll get makeup artists cheaper then just get your hair done at another local salon.

That is the cheapest by far I've found in my area and trust me I have shopped around, most are around £50/100 more at least. Only around £25 each when wash, blue dry and trim is £20ish .Aswell as its in my town so very easy for me as the next town is 20 mins away, while this is up the road from my house
My bm is doing my make up as she went beauty school. I'm just buying the foundation etc (base) so it matches my skin tone, but can keep it.

I've not looked into prices around here yet, not sure what I want to do.. I was thinking of getting the girls and going somewhere we could get a free make up trial, like a MAC store or somewhere, so they could advise what products to use and how, then we can just do our own on the day. Might see how that goes before deciding whether I want or need a professional.. ?! Think we will definitely have a hairdresser to do our hair though x

I think it's pretty much location based as to how much you get quoted. I'm in north east and been quoted £105 for hair (trials £18 separate) and £105 including trials for makeup for me and 2 BMs, however need to ask for another quote as I have a third BM.

My bridal hair was done at a salon, but I did my own makeup (no regrets at all, after having 5 trials)
