Luckily we still have loads of time to think about things, but we fell in love with the look of the old Victorian candy carts, we've seen some for around £150 but we've seen another for £75 if we buy a package, fiance thinks we should go for that but I'm not sure, the package includes some very basic favours, chair covers and sashes, tea-lights for the top table, scatter crystals, table names and some centre pieces, oh and a postbox.

There's a couple of problems with this, one we have a friend who has said she can provide the chair covers and sashes for free.... only problem there being either we'd have to set them up or see if the venue would do it. We also don't think the candy cart looks as nice as other's we've seen, to the point that I think I'd rather them just do us a buffet table rather then having their cart.

The package is £275 and I think we'd want to add some more bits too it, such as upgrade the favours from the bags to boxes as the bags only contain 2 little chocolate hearts which I think look a bit empty, a guestbook, some top table decorations ect. so we'd be paying £350 plus for sashes and chair covers we don't need to pay for (but it would possibly save us setting it up ourselves) a few extra's and a candy buffet which we could do ourselves?

What are your thoughts on this? Are the candy buffets cheap enough and easy enough to put together yourself?

I have a lady who is doing a candy buffet for me but my mum is paying for it so anything I don't have to think about is better lol
And chair covers are being done and then collected the following day by a local company

See I'm not completely sold on this company we've found, I wasn't too fond of the candy cart... would def go with the buffet and I wasn't impressed with their sashes for the chair covers either, I suppose I could ask if they could do something different for me.

Shop around hun I run a cart and you can get it for as little as around £50 for a d.i.y one where you buy your own sweets and glassware, best thing to do is knock round the doors of grannys of friends and borrow old ones or charity shops, you could also do your own buffet which is equally as nice try g00gle images hun you should be to get some ideas from there depending on your colour scheme. Maybe you could add organza, roses or garland to the cart to spruce it up? B&ms also do man and woman ornaments for £1.99 and £3.99 for the larger ones and you could get a couple of wooden signs to put on aswell some scatter crystals and led butterfly light etc this can also be done for your buffet xxx

We are doing out own sweetie buffet :) you can get some really good things cheaply-we've spent around £25 on ours-that's bags, tongs, table decorations and assortments of jars!
my mum works in a chain supermarket and they had tubs of sweets from Halloween at 1/4 of the price (refreshers bars, drumstick lollies,Parma violets, love hearts etc) and was dated until 2015-so she got us 4 tubs :) just got to get a few sweets like flying saucers and marshmallows and we are done x

I think we're going to do a DIY sweet buffet as the carts seem really expensive! Think it will be fun to sort out as well xxx

Not all carts are expensive the cost of hire also includes delivery, set up the which can take over an hour, collection of sweets to put on the cart which also costs fuel and time to go and get plus collection of the cart, not to mention buying in material to colour co-ordinate, time buying new scoops and tongs when stolen or misplaced and also supplying bags alot actually goes into a candy cart its not as simple as it seems mines also 7ft high 5 ft long and 2ft wide and takes 2 of us to set it up, Sorry just had to point this out xx

We actually boight a cart for 150, we are planning to hire it out after out wedding. The jars and sweet cost about 70 to do 130 people. This will be our favours. We are also doing cupcakes for our cake.

Shop around but unless you want specific sweets sometimes it just easier to let someone else to do the setting up etc. Look online and cost it up. In our area the carts we being rented with sweets for above 200, without for 100-150. We can now rent it out and make some of our money back!

I have seen some for sale around here and they're costing around £300-£400, whereas for about 100 people we can rent one for £150, I'll have to speak to people about what sort of sweets they include though as although I'm not overly fussy, I prefer chocolates to jellys so wouldn't want all jelly sweets (especially not for that price lol)

Don't settle for something, that seems like a bargain until you realise, that you don't need, like or want it.
You dont want to look back on your day and think "I wish I never paid for the candy cart, it was a waste of money."

We are doing our own, too.

mine was £695 then cost £85 to courier it but we were supposed to get an advertising package with it which cost us and extra £200 but was ridiculous otherwise ours would of only cost us £495 with all the glassware and 15kgs of sweets, tongs scoops light etc, shop around a lot of places do D.I.Y carts I know I do and its £50 without glassware and sweets or £80 with glassware and no sweets but this also includes my fuel and set up as even if its D.I.Y I still put everything on even if it is their own glassware and sweets. In the process of having a ferris wheel made now and when hubbys back hes also gonna make me a littler cart. Some companys charge stupid money but unfortunately some people will pay it. But I cant grumble Ive won 5 awards for mine and been mentioned in the Local paper for it :) x

Donna you should be to have a choice of the sweets you want on it hun x

Haha Brilly, don't suppose your near me?

There is one which I think is a good price, I can't remember if it was £130 or £150 but that was for a nice looking cart with sweets included for 100 guests. Considering it's all set up for us then, I don't think that's bad.

I really don't think I'm happy with the bloke who is coming round tomorrow to talk to us, will see what he has to say but can't see us making a booking.

im in the North East hun lol but £130-£150 is a bargain for 100 people hun maybe ask what quantity of sweets you get per person and also how many types of sweets too, if your not happy with the bloke that's coming don't book hun or you may regret it especially if its a gut feeling you have, have you seen any of there feedback or pictures of the cart set up?? xx

The cart just looks a bit naff, we'd seen another one which was stunning which was made us think of the whole idea in the first place, need to chase that one up again and double check the price and what it includes :)

Your all right if I'm not happy now then why go forward, I'll either find another cart we're happy with or look at doing it ourselves, but I do love the idea of the cart and having someone come set it up for us.

We found a company local to us that provides the cart and tableware, 2 sweet trees, 2 big bowls and about 13-16 (can't remember) small jars of sweets and also a wishing well. I really wanted to do it myself but OH said we'd barely be saving any money as we'd have to hire the wishing will from another company for £50 (I'm set on having one rather tan a post box, gorgeous!) I told him we'd judt buy the sweets in bulk from m@cro but he wants the cart to look 'proper' :(
