I'm just wondering if you have to do desserts for the evening guests or have any of you done an alternative idea. were having our wedding breakfast as a hotel but think they would be a little annoyed if I supplied our own dessert but think there's may be a little pricey. any ideas x

Wedding cake :) Thats what my guests are getting for dessert. Not everyone wants a dessert anyway but if you are planning on having a wedding cake anyway, why not make them eat it ;)

We're throwing tradition out of the window and instead of having a 3 course sit down meal we're having or cocktail hour/canapes as the "starter" a Sunday roast style carvery as the main for the sit down meal and desert will be served for everyone in the evening in the form of a sweetie bar and chocolate fountain. Our caterer is also really good that what they are making for the canapes they are also going to make a little more for something savoury at the evening as there are a few guests who don't have a sweet tooth.
Speak to your venue and see what they say. Some might be okay with you doing it. I toyed with the idea of getting M&$ party mini desserts like shot glass mousse's and jellies and also mini cheesecakes but went with sweet bar instead.

Wedding cake :) The day guests will have theirs with tea/coffee before the evening meal and the rest of the cake will be served during the evening buffet :)

We're serving our wedding cake and also having a dessert table which we cleared with our hotel first and they were fine with as it's a gift from h2b's lovely mum. Worth asking if they would allow it x

We will be the same as KelBel, cakes (we're having 6 or 7 home baked cakes) after the hog roast, but we are also having an ice cream van in the afternoon, so plenty for the sweet-toothed among us!

I don't think desserts are necessary for evening guests at all...we are doing a hog roast bun for evening food and we are having a sweet buffet (but to be fair, thats mostly for me and I will be fiercely guarding it from the guests!!) and il probably give them a slice of cake...xx

I'm having cake and sweet buffet as well.
I think cake is the best idea as otherwise you end up with loads of cake left over. The one wedding I have been to recently (as in the past 2 years haha) had cake as the dessert for the evening buffet, I didn't see it though as I never looked at the food for the evening, was so stuffed from our sit down meal....
Going to two receptions this year though so might have a better idea of what people do then
