Hello everyone just looking for some advice the place we have fallen in love with want deposits which I understand but seems very steep amount I'm just wondering what percentage other couples have paid for deposits... as I thought they were around 20% but our place want 50% for venue and 50% for food which we haven't even choose not yet and not getting married until next November.... any advice would be great!!

Every venue will have different procedures... we paid a £1000 deposit which ended up beingabout 15-20% of the final cost. Just think the more you pay now the less you have to pay going forward, and just make sure you get a contract with details of all costings if you are worried about it. Also ensure you have wedding insurance! xx

Thank you... well they want £2000 for venue and £2000 for food £400 for registrar and then we have to decorate the whole thing including back drops curtains dance floors etc I just think it's way too much to expect in one months and especially over a year away

The deposit is to secure your booking and gives both parties peace of mind that the contract is sealed. Ours was £1500 deposit.

Why are you paying a deposit for the registrar to the venue. Surely you should be arranging that with the local registry office?

Sorry yeah we are going through the registry office for registrar but the venue want it done in the first 10 days of booking but still it just seems very steep we know we have to pay deposits but 50% of venue and food that we haven't even choose not yet just seemed a bit much... but thank you for all ur help

It's normal for the venue to want you to secure a registrar before they will confirm your booking... ours was the same. I doubt you will have to pay the registrar cost in full upfront though, you should just have to pay them a deposit to confirm your date - ours was £35. That is something you should be doing as early as possible regardless though.

Re the food, I presume they will know a rough cost of the food based on your guest numbers and what kind of food you want.. i.e. the whole sit down 3 course wedding breakfast. You can still choose your exact courses at a later date, you would have just paid for a big percentage of it already which will be a relief nearer the time I'm sure!

We had to pay £500'deposit at time of booking. Six months before the wedding date we have to pay £1000 and the remaining balance 10 days before the wedding.

We paid the full ceremony cost of £1300 as a deposit, and then we need to pay for the remainder near the time. We also had to secure the registrar before the venue would confirm the booking and we had to pay the registrar fee upfront, which was £552 (not sure where the £2 comes from!). It may seem like a lot upfront but as the ladies say it gives you security that everything is booked for you, and it means less outlay later on. I have to keep reminding myself that a chunk of my budget has already been paid for and doesn't need accounting for again!

We have just paid £2000 deposit- we are getting married 2018, are you sure they want 4K and not just 2? Read their website

You could always say can we pay 2k and then next month pay the other 2k

Are you paying all the wedding yourself or are family helping?

We knew venues woukd want at least 2k so before we started looking me made sure we had enough money to pay initial deposits on venues and photographers and the big things

I haven't booked it yet, but the deposit is £500, about 20-25% of the total due. It's basically the room hire fee. I will only have to pay for the food and decor now :)

We paid £2000 deposit which is about 15% of what the final cost is. We then had to pay another £2000 last month at the 6 month mark. 50% deposit does seem a bit steep. Xx

We paid £1750, and have 3 more instalments to make, but we are planning on paying bits off as and when we can, so the next instalments will be lower.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

we paid 25%, they normally ask for 50% but that is for business customers (It was a museum) but that included everthing together, which was two rooms, (ceremony and reception) and the food, rather than billing us separate for each one, that just seems abit odd to me tbh. i know each venue has different guidlines, but I would have thought it would have all been bundled into one payment

Think we also paid about £1700 for the deposit.

Seems steep to me but then some of the other ladies seem to have a paid a lot too, some not so much. It really must just depend. Our deposit was $300 for the Chapel. Obviously the flights needed paying in full at time of booking. Nothing else required a deposit.
