Hello! I was wondering if anyone had been given any tips/advice when buying their jewellery on how to clean silver without damaging pearls attached to it? Thanks!

i know you can clean silver by putting it in water with tin foil at the bottom and a pinch of salt. You just put the item fiully submerssed in the water and it cleans it
i have no idea how it works, but it does as i cleaned my charm braclet thatway
I can't imagine that doing any damage to pearls as you dont even have to touch it, but im not sure, so that might be somethign you will need to check

My gran use to use warm water and a mild detergent suitable for woollens
Thank you Velcro - I looked it a bit more, it's a simple electrolysis to remove silver sulphide (the tarnishing). I tried it on cheap jewellery I had and it worked, and I figured that as pearls come from a salty environment, they should be ok. And it worked! I used a toothbrush to help along some of the more stubborn areas (plus it was quite an intricate design), and without the worry of getting chemicals on my skin. I now have a clean tiara!
