hi all, im in the very early stages of wedding fever and was planning on going to church friday to see about booking. Will they expect a deposit like venues do? also am I doing it the right way by booking the church first and hope that a venue is available? thanks in advance :) x

No they should not... be wary of one that does!
Normally you pay themoney on the day or the day before... usually the groom or the best man sorts it out in terms of physically handing over the cash.

As far as I know churches do require a deposit... Ours does, my friends did and so did my cousin. It wasn't any silly amount £30 should suffice x

I wouldn't be wary we paid £50 deposit when they came to see us at home we know them well anyway, I think it's a bit early to book the church now I would say 18 months before and I would do the same with venue x

I dont think its too early, if I do it now at least I know im definitely getting married in the month I want, I live in a city and the church is really popular x

We haven't had to pay a deposit. But I suppose different churches do it differently. If a deposit is required I can't see it being a huge amount. X

Our venue has a church onsite, so we payed them for the actual church but when we booked the reverand to come in (there is no residant one as there is no congregation) he needed a 50% deposit. It was all layed out very clearlys so we knew what to expect! !

It varies...unfortunately, churches need to insure against possible cancellations and the loss of revenue in the same way venues do.
Most churches round here that I know off charge a deposit, but it's usually les than £100.
Just make sure you are clear about what you need to pay and when...

I'm surprised.. the Catholic church doesn't see it as a way of making money in general, at least that's the way all the churches that are Catholic we looked at (although went with my own for sentimental value as well as ease and obvious choice!). They are charging us £230 total as they do not believe it should cost a fortune to get married and won't accept anyone they don't think is suitable or prepared to be married...which is fair enough! Choir/Organist costs a bit more but is organised separately anyway!
And we lived happily ever after!

Our church charge a deposit of £50. Payable to secure the date, just like our venue.

we didnt have to pay a deposit and payment is due 2 weeks before wedding but im going to pay it earlier than that x

There was no deposit to pay for ours and we just made our donation and paid church fees 6 days before the wedding at the rehearsal.

I think you'll just have to go in and see as most churchs seem to be different; just take some money with you or be prepared to pay some :P
