How many of you are not changing your name after getting married, at first i was really excited about becoming mrs hands but i have had some doubts my current last name is Kwidzinski but i was born Leeson ! I got it changed when i was 16 to my mothers maiden name as my father is a total deadbeat and ever since i was known at drs, school and even on my passport just mum thought it should be my choice to change it. And feel sad that there will be no more kwidzinski's as my mum only has 1 brother an he had 2 girls! And i will have not even been a kwidzinski for 10 years when i get married!

I had similar feelings as my dad has 2 daughters and my sister changed her name when she got married, I felt sad at the thought of my dad being the last one with my maiden name, of course with my mum but basically neither me or my sister would carry on the family name. Hubby was so keen for me to change it and didn't want me to double barrel so I've changed it but feel sad to lose my maiden namr, hubby is suggesting incorporating my maiden name into any of our children's names when we have them though as it is also a first name, male or female so as he is very keen on that idea we will probably do it.

I feel sad that my surname will change, but mainly because my H2B's name is a bit of a challenge to keep right in my head when spelling over tthe phone to pay the bills :)

I am changing mine. At the moment, I have no doubt about changing it. I think H2b's surname is better than mine lol! For me, I have 1 male cousin that will carry our name on.

I'm changing my name definitely! I'd hate for us to be different! His last name is officially East-Lipscomb but he just uses East cos the Lipscomb is his Dad's name and he's not around. Originally he just wanted me to take the name East so I wasn't connected to his Dad, but I told him if he's staying as East-Lipscomb that's what I'm having!!!
I am definitely changing my name but like you ladies am quite sad it's the end of the line. My dad died earlier this year so I am the last one with the name :( it feels quite odd n a bit sad but it's also the start to my new life x

I do want to change but i don't want to lose my old one. Especially seeming as our daughter has his name and its so annoying when i go to baby groups or what not and our names are in totaly different places due to being organised alphabeticaly by last name while all the others is mum and baby together

Awww Heather.
Well today I actually had to sign my married name, doesn't happen often as I'm keeping my maiden name at work so I keep my old signature for there and when you pay for card anywhere you just enter your pin but today I had to sign to say I had received something from click and collect and I made a total hash of my new signature!

Changing mine, hubs name is better and our kids have his surname. My sister is single and she and her boys carry my dads.surname (as does a brother but not seen him in years - less said the better) and he has a son somewhere. Not particularly sad to lose it to be honest, my siblings have managed to cause enough trouble that theres probably a bad association for most people lol!
I think my dad was probably more upset I didnt use any family names for our boys names (his side mens names are all VERY old welsh names)!

I'm kinda changing my name as H2B...
I have a very distinct surname ...k**le*jn0*w and h2b's is p*e*n**n*eck (altered to help not come up in search engines!). Due to us both wanting to keep our names we are double barreling. I have heard the easiest way to do this is for the groom to change his surname by deed-poll a short while before the marriage and then just take his name on the day!
The reason being I want to keep my surname for work as I have a reasonably good reputation and with a distinct surname, I'd like to keep that... he (and I!) want to have the same surname so that when we have a family we have a unifying name. He wants to keep his there too. Unfortunately, I can't have a different work name to my legal name as our HR system is all linked up with our security clearance which we both have to hold so I have to decide! H2B is being very accommodating.
He even let me put my surname first... so we will be the K-Ps ...Nuts! hahaha!
Fortunately for me my signature doesn't use my surname, I think I made a conscious decision when I was 11 and opened up my first current account that I didn't want my surname in it in case I got married and had to change it! Hahaha!
It means we both have to apply for new passports but because we both need one for work, work will pay for them thankfully!
Love to know how others are doing this!
And we lived happily ever after!

I am taking my H2b's surname and I am looking forward to it but at the same time sad to loose my family name, I have two brother's that will be carrying on the surname so not a huge loss, I was even considering getting a tattoo of our surname coat of arms just so as its still a part of me in a small way :) x

My h2b is taking my name, his dad abandoned them when he was small so he has never really felt attached to his name. I had to go through a lot to get my children's names changed to my maiden name after I divorced their biological dad so I didn't really want to loose my surname, this way he becomes part of a proper family and I get to keep the name I cherish, everybody is happy

Definitely changing mine, I like the tradition of it and I want us to have the same name.
My passport runs out next week so I'm not replacing it cos I'd be paying for a passport that I won't use (not going abroad until honeymoon next year anyway) so it seems a waste of money to then have to pay for another in my new name. I will just apply for it 3 months before the wedding and have it post dated. It will be odd having a legal document in my new name before that's actually my name
I've so far resisted the urge to try out my new signature

We had this discussion as he doesn't really feel attached to his surname, as his dad is pretty much useless. However, my surname meant even less to me (actually all it meant was that it fit nicely on my number plate!) so I took his, but if we have kids we'll be changing it to his stepdad's surname (or when his dad dies whichever comes first).
I didn't change my signature as although it says my maiden name it isn't legible and I've been using it for so long I knew I would forget if I changed it. I've changed it when I have to initial something, but becuase my initials are now MN it just looks like a squiggle/worm :-)

I am changing mine but like many of you i feel really sad about losing my maiden name!! :-( i am 1 of 3 daughters and both my sisters are married so there is no1 carrying on our family name!! Which also upsets my dad, he asked me to double barrell but mine and H2B's surnames are so long it would take forever to sign anything!!
I am happy to change in a way though as its tradition and if we have children we will all be the same!! :) xx

When i was with an ex i was like theres no way im changing my name to yours 'Williams' excesh as 3 of my friends all had that name, to commen, but i would not mind being Mrs Smith (as the doctor always takes that name) but i think Hands is unusual enough!

We want our marriage to be on equal grounds and not have arguments. I'm happy to be changing my name, I love my in-law's to be and couldn't ask for a nicer family to be marrying into so couldn't be more thrilled they want me as a Rodgers!! Also, I have a lovely Mum-in-law to be so that's not an issue... We call ourselves Mrs. Rodgers when we are alone anyway and it's nice to imagine :) xx

I've been thinking lots about this lately and I really don't know! I was so absolutely completely sure I would change it, and then this week for the first time I tried signing my new name - sad, I know - and it was so weird. It felt like losing the old me or something. I know that sounds dramatic but it just feels like the person who's been doing all this stuff for the last 28 years is going to be gone. Having said all that I probably will still change and just get used to it, but I really like the idea of including my maiden name in our kids names.

I can understand how Mrs Cross would create some humour in a school. A close friend of mine works in an all boys school so has stayed Ms Clarke (for work anyway) rather then becoming Mrs Cox.
My tutor at school was Mr Nobbs! That created a few jokes lol!
