hi, im due to phone my caterer today and i was just wondering what people have found average costs to be per head, so i know if shes trying to rip me off.
we are looking at having an afternoon tea -cakes / sarnies etc, then something hot later with a few different options with a pudding. the evening will be buffet style as in people will go up and be served, but the pudding will be brought to the table.
    thanks :)

I think you get what you pay for and buffet prices can vary greatly depending on where you are having your reception. If it's a 4 star hotel then it's going to cost more than a small local catering company. Did she come recommended? Have you been to events where she has done the catering?

You have to be able to trust completely whoever you chose to do your food and not have to worry about whether she is ripping you off. We had ours in a hotel where we'd eaten lots of times so knew the food is always good but hadn't been to a buffet there but lots of friends had and told me the food had always been lovely and lots of it. That didn't stop my husband adding extras as he didn't want anyone to go hungry.

ps - meant to say it was £16.95 plus the extras he insisted in adding which we really didn't need

It all depends on the menu and what the food costs to produce. There are certain foods that will cut costs.
