Hi, I'm very much a newbie and all this wedding malarkey is mind boggling stuff! :-)

My bf proposed to me last month in Venice - I was so excited and it was totally unexpected but just what I needed to finally get over losing my mum suddenly last year.

A few years ago we went travelling together round the world and in New Zealand we found a beautiful church and always said we would love to get married there.

The problem is we have my bfs sister who will only fly as far as lanzarote, his mum who is large and has a colostomy bag and I don't think woukd be able to travel and a close friend that won't fly.

I pretty much know I have to accept that nz is a no go but I can't move on a look at any other venue as I'm gutted that I can't get married where I want- similarly we wouldn't want to get married without parents there!

We both don't want a big wedding either and from reading other threads it seems difficult to find small venues.

I'm hoping the more I start looking and planning the more excited and acceptance but at the moment I'm feeling a little sorry for myself xx

I always wanted to get married abroad but my dad can't fly due to health reasons so that was a big no go for us. Oh always wanted a big day so big day it is. Although not as big as he would like. Maybe once you start looking at possible venues you will be more excited about the thought of a wedding at home.

Why don't you have your day in England with everyone then go on honeymoon to NZ and organise a blessing at the church while you are there? That would be lovely then it's best of both worlds :) x

Why don't you have a small reg office wedding over here with friends and family so they see you make it all official then have a blessing at your dream location? Then you get the best of both :) x

    Hi Michelle
Just wanted to agree with the other ladies. I am a kiwi and would have loved to get married at home but OH family would never have travelled that far.
We are getting married here (7weeks today!) and having a blessing ceremony/honeymoon in NZ. our blessing ceremony is now one of the main events of my family reunion so all my kiwi family are coming which makes me feel much better about getting married here.

Also, excellent choice of church, it is in such a beautiful location! Very jealous.

Thanks Kim- that sounds like a great plan you have and I bet the blessing will be just a special as the big day :-) yes lake tekapo is such a magical place- we loved NZ and I really cannot wait to go back.

I've started to look at venues and get quotes for venues locally and feeling much happier about the whole thing
