I have only been to one shop so far to get an idea of the style that suits me. I am using that information to find things I like on google and make an album before I go to another shop. Is there a particular style you prefer? Are there any dress shops nearby that you haven't tried? Maybe if you did an album of googled images it will help you decide what you are looking for? You could perhaps have it made if you cant find what you want?

How many shops have you been to so far/how many dresses have you tried? I think that's pretty key as if you've tried only a dozen or so you might just need to try a few more. Also, have you tried lots of different styles? A lot of brides think they know what they want and end up with something very different so I'd try lots of different styles eg silhouettes (mermaid/trumpet/a-line/sheath/ball gown/fit and flare/empire line), necklines (scoop/boat/v/sweetheart), levels of bling, type of fabric, type of sleeves (strapless/straps/cap sleeves/full sleeves), etc. It might also be worth trying places like wedding fairs/sample sales/discount stores, as they often have older styles (mine was a sample dress from 2009) and so again you might come across something you haven't seen elsewhere.

You also have plenty of time: about 10 months before you really need to be thinking about buying/putting a deposit down and lots of new style will come out in that time. If you still can't find anything, you could think about having one made, or find a dress that you like most elements of and have it altered (eg straps/sleeves a can be added to a strapless dress, bling added to a plain dress, the shape can usually be slightly altered, etc).

The last thing I'd say is to have realistic expectations; a lot of people expect to get the whole teary/emotional reaction, and some people just aren't like that. I made a very cold, objective choice with mine; I loved it, but I certainly didn't get the 'OMG it's THE ONE!' moment; and I'm not alone. So I kind of think if you're expecting that you might be setting yourself up for disappointment as it just might not happen for you.

Don't panic you have plenty of time! I'm marrying in about 9 months and still not found the perfect dress .

You mention looking does that mean just in magazines or actually trying them on as sometimes ones you think no on the hanger can be wow on :)

You have loads of time so don't worry. Just book yourself in to different bridal stores and try on different cuts, shapes, styles and types of detail. You'll find the right one eventually. Keep an open mind on what you try on, the dress you end up getting may be the one you have not even considered style wise. I had a very set idea of what I wanted but ended up with something very different, my sister was the same with her wedding gown.

If you are only looking you may need to try some on and see what they look like. So many can look different on than on the hanger and sometimes the style you think you want, you don't. Take some friends/siblings etc along with you, and if you are still having trouble, get them to pick a dress each out for you and try them.

When you go to a bridal shop the ladies there will be really good at picking out styles that suit you, so definitely take their recommendations on board. Otherwise at this stage look at lots of picture and try lots on, but remember that new styles and designs will come out before you need to be committing to anything.

Take people close to you with you when you shop in the bridal stores and get them to pick out dresses to try on, I had my mum, best mate and sister all pick out ones to try and also the lady who owns the store I ended up getting my dress from. With everything I tried on she eventually found me the perfect dress and altered it, adding something to make it my dream dress.
It's amazing how others see things you don't x

You really don't need to worry about finding a dress so soon. Going dress shopping next year isnt exactly leaving it to the last minute. As long as you leave yourself with at least 9 months (by September 2015!) you'll be fine!

I went to 'look' at dresses one day 13 months before our wedding and came home with my dress the same day and been in my spare room since. I wish I didn't get it so early as I have longer to wonder if I rushed into things as I didn't go to any bridal stores to see what looked good on me and I got it from an outlet, so either bought it there and then or never saw it again. It's also the most exciting part of wedding planning so I've not been excited by anything since. Don't rush!

You still have lots of time and the styles change so much in two years. I didn't even go shopping until it was 15 months to the wedding, found my dress in the 3rd shop, sometimes it's better to focus on a few shops rather than getting your brain too overwhelmed with the 'quantity' of dresses x

how many shops you been, try to go in with a open mind and take advice from the ladies in the shops as they get to know what dresses suit different shapes, and even try on a dress even if you think its horrible just to rule it out, as alot of the time they look alot different on, i have ended up with something completely different than i was looking at online and in mags, i would not have picked it if i had not tryed it on.

I never had the - this is the one moment - i tried on loads of dresses and loved many....they all looked beautiful and were amazing, they are bound to be being the best made and most beautiful dresses I have ever tried on. However I found that I was starting to get frustrated that I liked so many so I sat down and decided what type I imagined me in.

Bigish bottom - flattering but not suitable for my dancing style haha
Mermaid also not suitable for dancing style
    so slim a-line it is

Fabric i always thought lace was romantic

and so the list is narrowed

The new seasons are coming out now so new dresses to look at. It's quite exciting even though iv picked my dress to look at what's new. It was the lady in the shop that suggested my dress as I was looking at a similar one but she thought mine would suit my curves better as was more fitted round the hips. Tried it on and couldn't stop staring at myself in the mirror! Was completely different to what I had imagined myself in but I love it!
