    Hi All,

    So firstly a little about me. I got engaged on the 14th September 2016 a big shock it was! Myself and my partner Lewis set the date just 2 days after and we are going for 14th September 2018 exactly 2 years on.

    I am a newbie and really don't know where to start. There is so many overwhelming details everywhere, so i am calling out to all brides on this site for help with BUDGETS.

    I have been told by many people to set a budge.. which atm for me is providing impossible.

    So there question is how do you set/or did set your budget? Or do you/did you have a budget at all?

    Hey!

    Firstly Massive congratulations. Its difficult, originally my OH and I set a figure that we both thought was manageable for us to save up slowly and pay off stuff as we went along, my family then decided to give us a very generous budget.
    I think my biggest piece of advice is stick to it, our original plan was a vey small wedding looking at about 5k, we had decided on that as it meant we weren't pressured on saving and it gave us some flexibility, I would sit down and make a decision one evening between you, then write a list of everything you need and prioritise which costs are most important and will need the largest share of the budget and go from there xx

    I really found it difficult to set a budget at the start because I just did not know how much everything would cost. I started thinking about how many people we would have coming and then looked at our venue first. Regarding costs for everything else I have just been getting several quotes for every detail so far (cake/ photographer / DJ / hair/make up etc) to get an idea on the going rate and was really surprised at the difference in some rates. Think about what you are willing to spend more money on and what you are happy to cut back on or potentially do yourself in order to save.

    My best advice would be to plan ahead. We booked our wedding 2 years in advance and I now know what they final payments will be in 2018 as most want final payments 6-8 weeks before. We are therefore planning to save next year towards these. You could also get some services at 2016-17 prices rather than 2018 prices!

    They save the average cost is pushing over £20k now but it is more than possible to come in way under that! First off write a list of all the things you need to organise or potentially pay out for

    the eastiest way to start setting a budget is by working out your guestlist. once you have worked out how many day guests you need and evening guests you can start working out what kind of venues you can go for and getting quotes for them so you can base your budget going forward.

    We are having a weekday wedding to save on cost, our wedding is going to cost us about 8k x

    To be honest, we actually started our budget by working out how much we could realistically afford to save per month and went from there. We booked our venue a year ago and we don't get married until 2018, both venue and photographer honoured this years price, which has saved us a considerable amount.

    Have an idea of how much you are willing to spend on each vendor/supplier. For example my H2B and I are paying halves each for the wedding but my mum and I are picking and planning everything. Go to wedding fairs and compare prices of suppliers and some will do discounts. I found a decorator who wanted to charge me for a consultation and I would only get that money back if I booked her. I found that to be unreasonable and unnecessary so I went to a couple of wedding fairs and found a few decorators compared the prices and the way their work was presented at the wedding fairs. You have to be realistic with things and even look at different ways of cutting costs, I got my wedding invites from a company I searched on google and then got 20% off as I signed up to their subscription emails. Look on eb@y and @mazon for little bits as well such as cake toppers or favour boxes (these can work out a lot cheaper than getting them from the decorator) etc. Check out venues and based on the month/day you are getting married you may get a discount.

    Budget and guest list come side by side as budget depends on venue and venue depends on guest list due to capacity.

    Look at what you can save first then priorities. For example we wanted wedding cars so I cut my dress budget. Xx

    I agree with the ladies above it all depends on what you would like for your big day. Me and my H2B struggled to at first but we decided to book our venue and church, set the guest list then work the rest of the budget from there.
    Use the quote me tool on here to get some quotes from suppliers and then you can see what people charge and what you would be comfortable to spend.

    I would think about what you think is a realistic budget- are you paying yourself or getting help from parents? Then look and venues and thunk about guest lists- we sat and did a guest list of who we wanted to invirpted then looked at venues that could fit the numbers- guests and venues come hand in hand- it is rally hard to budget and it depends how much you want to do yourself to save costs!

    Hey Congratulations :). I would really think what is realistic for you tbh. Try and find out if parents will be helping you at all as well.
    You can have a wedding for as little as £1000 and then for as much as you can afford. Try to be as realistic as you can with it too. Also don't forget you can make thigs your self e.g invites and centre piceses. Also the internet is your wedding planning friend lol! Xx

    A massive thank you to the helpful comments.

    Myself and the H2B have sat down and wrote out our "achievable" budget (what we can get just by saving normally) along with a "stretch" budget (what we can get by super saving).

    We have also wrote out our day guest list as this seems to be where the money is going to add up quickly. Now we are searching for a venue.

    Went to see the "top price" venue this sunday gone and it was utterly stunning. Its so hard not to set our hearts on it when we have nothing to compare it to. But have a fully booked weekend of venue viewings this week.

    So exciting.

    good luck!

    You will surprise yourself with venue I think! I was set on Clearwell castle but after looking around and considering prices and contraints on guest numbers we went for a small but lovely barn instead. Completely different from the plan lol!

    I know tell me about it.

    My H2B is half maltease so his side of the family is rather big & they are all so close so 99% of them will be coming to the day lol!

    We was planning on having a later ceremony then going straight into the evening "party" reception but now swaying more to a sit down wedding breakfast.

    They are so many options to choose from it gets a little overwhelming.
