Not sure what to do about bridesmaid dresses.
My two bridesmaids now live about 4hrs away from me as they moved last year. They have a lot going on in the next couple of months with college, new jobs and working on their new house. I emailed the other week to say I'm going to have a look for dresses in September and if they are free could they come down in the October half term to try and get something. But they might not be able to do it then, which is fine as we can always sort another time. But their mum said to me that one of them needs to lose weight so basically wants time for that and mentioned to my dad it might not be until spring that they can come down - my wedding is in May.

They are both different shapes, sizes and height so they might not both suit the same dress which is why I wanted to see them as we could maybe get the same colour but in different styles. Spring is too close to the wedding to get it sorted. If they are able to come sooner then fantastic, if not I don't know whether just to order dresses online and get them to try them on at theirs?

you could, order the ones you like, send them to them and if they are happy get them to take a picture so you can see, or Skype them to talk it over and then if they arne't ok, get them to send you them and you can send them back, try again with other choices, or send them lots at the same time and see whichone they like.

I had the same type of problem. However I managed to get a weekend when everyone was free. My backup plan was to go to a department shop with each girl and see them try on dresses and take pictures. I have a FB group with all my maids in and I share dress ideas with them so their kept in the loop and know whats happening; could you do something similar?

Remember, they could get different dresses in the same colour or contrasting tones. Worst case scenario is that you order the dresses for them. xx

I definitely think spring is too late too look, and tbh my sis in law ordered a 12 months ago wanting to 'slim' into it and she never so 3 weeks ago we had to change the zip to a lace back as couldn't exchange it etc which has ended up costing her money ... She is more like a heavy 14 light 16 ... Definitely better to get sorted now and if she loses it take dresses in as alterations as this is easier than taking out x

I agree with kel you cant wait for people to lose weight as not everyone actually does. If they are that worried trty and get a lace back so there is more wiggle room if the lose or gain. I also think that will be too late. To have them made you would need to give at least 6 months for them otherwise it will be department shops instead and depending on your colour scheme there may be few to choose from.

Hi, I wanted to get mine last year and kept on being told to wait till April this yr as my BMs wanted too loose weight. I asked if they all wanted a day out at a bridal show in harrogate and at the time they did, come the day only 2 out of 6 turned up.needless to say I was rather annoyed...... Eventually I got the dresses in may this year after sending them an email with a picture of 2 styles and asked them which they liked . Bought them without them there . Wish id got the ones I liked last year....

If you see some u like dont wait for them to loose weight and stick to what you would like ...

I think it'll be the case of same colour but different styles. If i can order off a high street website it wouldn't be too bad because they can try different styles on and I can see photos or on Skype at what they look like.
I would like to get the dresses sorted by January at the latest. I don't think she can lose/put on that much weight in that space of time.
Not much else I can so apart from that.

Could you find some suitable things in a chain like D3benams? That way they can try it on in a store local to them and see if it suits them.

I would suggest getting them to check high street stores local to them, like house of frsr/debs and take a picture of each girl in the dresses, then if they find something that you and them like, can order them from there?

As said before, could you go to them? Or look on the high street and ask them to have a look local to them?

It would be awkward going to them too, so totally understand it being difficult for them coming to me. With 3 young kids and work it would be a bit difficult. Think it may need to be high street stores or online they accepts refunds. If not they know roughly what style and colour I want so they could maybe look up there way and choose something, would need to give them a budget as they do have expensive tastes :)
Also want the girly experience of a girly day dress shopping too though. Fingers crossed we'll sort something out where we can all meet, but if not we'll work something out.

I would definitely start looking this side of Christmas to give yourself a bit of a cushion; that way if you end up having to go the bridal shop/online route there's plenty of time to get them ordered in without stressing yourself out. Is there any way you could meet half-way if you can't go to them or them to you? That might be a compromise worth considering as 2 hours travel time is a lot easier to manage than 4 (which basically means you're looking at a whole day (super-early start and very late home), or a weekend).

Otherwise I second the idea about having them find something themselves: just be very clear on what you want eg if you want a certain length, say so, specify the colour clearly, etc, and also of course specify the budget. If they have expensive tastes and don't deem your budget large enough, they can always put towards (this was initially what we were going to do until we decided we wanted them matching and discovered the dresses we liked were really expensive and so paid the bill; I think it's a good compromise though as you don't break the bank, and if they can't find something they like within your budget they're free to increase it and get something they DO like)
