Haha -I remember having pics taken of my dog/with my dog and it is a nightmare.

Was the photographer good though? Hope it isn't too long until you get the pics :) I'm really looking forward to our engagement shoot, I have been considering taking the dog and my son as well, but I don't know if I'd trust little one to hold the dog while we had any just couple shots :/ will take my son if he wants to go. Shame as it would be lovely to get some photo's of all four of us.

She was - she let us do our own thing but I think we would have preferred a little direction but I guess the whole point is that we wanted her for the relaxed, 'capture the moment' aspects which is what she does. I guess on the day we will be so caught up in everything she'll capture all those moments so tbh we're not that worried!
I'd advise no dogs or children (I don't mean that rudely at all) because we didn't really get any completely relaxed, happy, romantic, 'in love' pictures as we were too worried about the dog. It's a special time and I think if we'd do it again, we wouldn't take them with us as we would have preferred a quiet, romantic shoot just us, special for us x

Thanks hun, don't worry about sounding rude you don't at all... I'd rather have the advice now then wait until we've had it and you say ''yeah I thought that would be a bad idea'' lol. We can always ask my sister to do us another shoot as a family as she is my photographer

In that case, I'd say that you take your son if you want because he can easily occupy himself if necessary when you want some romantic shots but a dog, not so much lol. However, if you want just you time together alone then maybe go with just you and OH. Engagement shoots are special and should be romantic and so I think in hindsight, no animals and just get a few shots at the house! I kind of wish we had left the pooch at home tbh but hey ho, my Dad has said he'll do a bit for us on our own if we want and he's fabulous so we might go down to the Cobb at sunset sometime :) we love him to pieces of course but he was a bit of a nuisance today! x

We'll see when we decide to do it anyway, he might be at his Dad's or something.

We're going to book it in last minute as we want it outside so waiting for a nice day when my sister doesn't have any appointments. She said we could book an appointment but I'd rather not stop her getting any other business.

I'm back to thinking about flowers, can't decide whether I should maybe go artificial after all and also whether I should stick with roses as I've seen some lovely one's that aren't roses.... so I'm basically back to square one, do I go artificial roses or real roses or real something else?

Also as we have roses on the cake would it be weird to not have roses in the bouquet or does that not matter?

Donna I'm no help what so ever with flowers, I'm having the same issues with mine. But I've pretty much decided on roses and thistles so will see what the flower woman says when we meet next month.

The evening guests aren't an issue really as I will just cut out my work mates and I'm sure plenty people won't go as it's a bit of a travel. Your right a lot can change in a year but I was mostly thinking about stds and when to send them that's when we realised we have too many people lol.

I'm going to a consultation for flowers in July if the price is right and I get what I want ill book with the venues preferred florist as they will deliver to the venue the morning of the wedding so saves me a job and stress :-)

Going BM dress shopping 21st June with my sister 3 very different shops we are going to so hopefully we find something we both like

Oooo looks good, did you get some good idea's?

Fiancé is doing my head in, we're looking at holidays for this year (trying to work out if we can afford one) so I've been looking at what's on offer and he is just a nightmare, I remember he was like this when we booked our honeymoon too... he'll just say no to everything or oh looks okay, so I'll have to really get at him to get him to say what he doesn't like about it but he doesn't give me anything. I'm tempted to just say stuff it I'm not looking and I won't look for holidays again you can sort them, but I know if I do that then we'll just never go on holiday again.

Giving up on the holiday idea anyway I think :(

I know I sound like a spoilt brat, but think we're just getting a bit fed up of work and the rubbish weather here... and getting jealous of everyone going on holiday, it was around this time last year we booked our first holiday abroad as well. Fiancé wants to keep looking closer to the time for a holiday, but I think we're better off just stopping thinking about it and just finding something else to entertain us over the 6 week holidays. We need to save for the wedding, and if we do end up saving too much for the wedding then that money can go towards a holiday for us the following year... much rather that then end up not having enough money come the wedding :(

Although you never know, we might have an amazing deal closer to the time, but prices in school holidays are shocking.

I said in the other thread as well Kerrie, but I'll say it again ;)

Try on loads of different styles, don't be nervous and don't worry if you don't find something you like straight away, I only liked one in the first shop... and it was only okay, I thought I was going to have to go with it and felt really deflated, but then I went in a different shop and it was a completely different story. All the dresses were stunning and made me feel amazing.

Oh and that's another thing, don't try anything on outside of your budget, because if you fall in love with something out of your budget you don't want to feel like you have to go for second best because you can't afford it.

Agree with donna. The only thing I would add is go with an open mind. first shop I went into the lady said to me go pick your dresses to try on but I have one in mind for you. I would never have tried on her choice of dress but when I went into the 2nd shop the dress I tried on and bought was the same style of dress the first shop had picked for me.

    Catherine your pics are gorgeous

Donna you don't sound like a spoilt brat we work hard all year round and look forward to holidays its what keeps us going. Hopefully you can get a last minute cheap enough deal so you can all get away x

Wow Kerrie I posted in the other thread saying how beautiful your dress is, but also well done on getting it on your first go ;)

I found mine on my first shopping trip but took me a few more shops to then go back and put the deposit on it (although that was more to please my mum as she didn't want me rushing into it and then deciding I didn't like the dress, worked in my favour though as I managed to get 30% off instead of 20%) which makes a big difference.

Hey ladies, just read up on everything I'd missed since my last post. Gorgeous engagement photos Catherine, you and your partner must be so pleased! I also love the lace overlay for your dress, totally my style lol! Kerrie your dress is gorgeous, got a lovely elegant Summery feel with the flowers and looks nice and light too! So nice to see everyone's progress :)

We had a very successful trip to NI, have booked a 10am ceremony at the registry office, but also a registrar to come to the in-laws (our venue) for a noon ceremony, as we won't know for a while whether or not we will get the marriage license - registry office were so helpful!

Caterers didn't go so well, hog roast is said to be a cheaper option but she quoted nearly 2k for hog and burgers in the evening for or 80 guest. All fine though, went to see the family butcher who said about £200 for a pig the size we need, and are looking to pay the deposit for the roasting machine (£250) this week. Going to have friends and family chip in to make sides (salad, coleslaw, potato salad, cous cous with peppers) and will make big pots of chilli (hot sauce and sour cream on the side to add to taste) for the evening to be served with rice!

Lastly we went to see the hostel which will offer cheap accommodation and be the base for our guests for 2 days, and it was really cool, clean and comfy - all we could ask for! Have paid 50% deposit (£665) and will be asking guests to pay £10pp for both nights to help pay the rest. Family all know this already and think its great - think it will be like an afterparty haha.

Also went to the dress shop I've had my eye on yesterday with my mum and 2 of my bridesmaids. The style was everything i dreamed of but the approach was not as I expected. What she does is sits you down for a consultation as each dress is unique, then puts you in one of the basic dress styles and plays with sleeves, neckline, length, sashes and petticoats! Just about to add some photos to my album to give you all an idea! Have decided I will have lace on the top half, plane on the bottom, with a broad yellow sash and yellow petticoat (have also got yellow wellies and umbrella for if the weather is pants)! Going to start of with sleeves and remove them if decided as I really loved it with and without!

Everything is falling into place so smoothly already!!

    Hello everyone

My fiancé and I have been hovering between late august and early September next year but have finally found a venue and booked for the august bank holiday weekend.

The venue has been really kind and are currently holding both the Saturday and Sunday for us until we are able to speak to the vicar at the church and confirm the Sunday is ok for a ceremony. We are hoping for the Sunday as it is £10 per head cheaper at the venue and as it is bank holiday, people will still have Monday off work.

Unfortunately the church doesn't have a vicar at the moment but are interviewing this week (does that sound odd to anyone else?) so hopefully we can talk to someone soon. They don't have anyone booked for that weekend yet, but we have filled in the forms and set them to the lady in charge at the moment.

I have chosen my dress but not ordered yet, will do that soon. I think there is a pic in my album.

Have no idea on colour scheme but I want either purple or blue. My engagement ring has a ceylonese sapphire in it so would have a similar shade of blue to that.

I have also chosen my bridesmaids and MOH, and they all said yes when I asked. Pictures of my 'will you be my bridesmaid' cards are in my album

So much to do but I think now that we have a date ( or at least a weekend), we have something to work towards.

You're pretty much sorting out all the big things. Once you have your official date see about your photographer next as they tend to book up at about the same rate at venues but take the time as well to ensure you get the right one for you :) xxx

Oh yeah, I forgot about the photographer,
We have found one we really like and he is currently still free on both days that weekend.

I think i am going to be a bit cheeky and see if they will hold both days for us like the venue did. If they say no then we will just have to take the risk and hope we get to speak to the vicar and confirm the date sooner rather than later.

Yeah, there is but having a Sunday wedding is the personal choice of the vicar.
She doesn't think it will be a problem but until the vicar is in place, we can't confirm the Saturday or the Sunday.

She is currently on holiday but we are going to ask her to hold the weekend for us when she gets back

Vicar's have to apply and go through the interview process like any other job. Once they've been chosen and ordained in then you'll be good to go and arrange a date.

Ah right get it now was wondering why you would have to wait, but if its a personal choice I can see why. Hopefully the new vicar will be in place soon and then you can finalise the date :)
