We're August 2014 :-) Been engaged for 2 years already and it's creeping up quickly!

    So far, we've:

Booked the ceremony venue, but not paid the deposit
Booked and paid the deposit on the reception venue, and chosen food and drink options
    Bought my dress and shoes
Found our photographer, who we're booking next month
Found the cake and baker we want; again, booking and paying the deposit next month

    We need to:

Go shopping for bridesmaids dresses; will probably do that either in the summer or next January sales
    Find a suit for OH
Make the stationary (sending the STD's out this summer, so I should probably get a move on with that lol)
Find and book a pianist for the ceremony and drinks reception
Find and book a bad for the evening reception
Find a florist and decide on flowers (dreading this; I kind of do and don't care at the same time lol)
    Buy my veil
    Get my dress altered
Order and pay for our rings
Book the registrar (can't do it until a year before, SO frustrating!) and give notice
Finalise the guest list (it's up in the air at the moment for various reasons and it's really stressing me out!)
Decide on readings and ceremony music
    Decide on our first-dance song

So, umm, yeah, quite a lot left to do lol!

ETA: AND we need to decide where we're honeymooning and book it! ARGH!

Siany: I really don't! I don't know where time has gone, we have SO much left to do, and on top of that, we don't live together, so as well as organising the wedding we need to get money together for rent, find somewhere to rent, buy furniture...

Oh god, I feel really stressed now!

Whoops, sorry!! Didn't mean to stress you lol. We're the same, we do live together though but we've just given up our flat to move back in with my mum, as h2b was made redundant. So mum offered to have us here so we can save more for the wedding, then we've gotta save a deposit for a new home too. We have all of our furniture from the flat so we don't have to worry about that. Try looking in the foundation of heart charity shop, they have a furniture shop at reasonable prices too :) xx

Hi Barbie86 - i only found out at the weekend that its giving notice to the registrar that has to be done 1yr before the date but they do take bookings before then. so glad we found out now as rang registrar and they said they only had 2 slots left on the 30th aug next yr, including the time we wanted and that if we definately wanted that time we had to pay a small non-refundable deposit. I would suggest you ring the registrar today.
we had looked at rather alot of venues in different areas and not one mentioned about checking with the registrar that they would be free on the date. the lady who told us at the venue we went to see on sunday said that she didnt want to take any deposit until we had checked .. Had she not said we would have waited until sept this yr to do and may have been totally stuck .

Fiona is right, we got engaged last July to be married next July & I phoned the registrar in September last year & like Fiona, they only had 2 slots left for our date & time, they get booked up so quickly so I would phone them asap! We paid a £50 deposit to book ours, but it may vary depending on your district xx

hi - registrar for us is in Harrogate North Yorkshire - i have no idea what i would have done if we had booked a place and then not been able to get a registrar.
Good luck Barbie86 - hopefully they will even pencil you in if they can not formally book you in.

Just called them, and nope, they won't take a booking until dead on a year in advance as that apparently makes it 'fairer'. How it makes it 'fair' god only knows; we've had our venue booked for ages, and have paid a hefty deposit, so we HAVE to get the time and date we want!

My parents are going to call back later this week and 'have words' and see if they can make an exception; otherwise, I'm going to be on tenterhooks for the next 6 months, plus we won't be able to make firm bookings with the photographer etc! ARGH!

We paid a lot for our venue deposit too, so I was worrying about the registrar, I only phoned them to enquire about when I could put down a deposit, & they only had 2 spaces left! If you ring them at 9am, on the day that makes it 12 months before you marry, you'll be fine! Try not to worry too much xx

I know, but what if someone gets in first, or they're engaged?! It's stress we could do without and the more I think about it, the less logical it seems >-(

If they won't budge we're actually going to get one person to go there in person, then another to stay home and call lol,to up our chances. They have 3 time slots and 2 sets of registrars, so I'm sure we'd get something, but we really want 1pm; 2.30pm is later than we'd like, and 4pm is way too late.

perhaps when your parents ring they could offer to pay for the fee there and then. failing that i'd be sitting on the door step for when they open ( dont forget to take your id etc ) or like Siany.x mentioned ring them as soon as they open. they must deal with lots of people on the same day sand will know of the venues in the area that hold wedding ceremonies so must have enough cover to sort everyone.
Sorry i didnt mean to get you stressed out. x

Heehee thanks girlies! And Siany I love it too!!! They have soooooo much stuff and at such good prices that you can't resist just picking things up and adding them to the basket! lol and then get a bit of a shock at the till, but at least you have a fair amount to show for it! lol xxx

Becky, first off great date ;) lol and it is very overwhelming when you begin to plan but things will fall into place and start making more sense soon :) I am only as far as I am with my planning as I have been planning since April last year, and the cost can be very scary to begin with, but there are some brilliant bargains to be had, and all the ladies on here are soooooo helpful if you need help finding anything or working out if prices are good or not. Try not to stress too much and just enjoy planning your special day!! xxx

the last dept i worked in (i work in a hospital) wud allow special circumstances to be booked well before the holiday year started as long as it was in writing and when the holiday requests come out they wud already be on there....so it looks like it down to the individual manager and not trust policy ...just hope she says yes when i ask if i can book the honeymoon.....we not even got our holiday requests authorised for yet for 2013/14 and a lot are waiting to book holidays x

    Hiya Zoe,

I've already found my dress & I'm not getting married until July 2014! But I know for sure that it's the one, I have looked at other dresses but keep coming back to the same one. I'm just not going to bother looking anymore, just in case I do spot a new one! But my heart is set on that one, I'm sure you'll feel the same when you find 'the one'. Bridesmaid dresses I've already found too (changed my mind quite a few times) but again, I'm set on the ones I've found recently. It's up to you how far in advance you start looking really :)
You do have to make appointments to try on dresses & normally, they will tell you what to wear/bring (like strapless bra, neutral underwear etc) xx

I took my mum & one of my bridesmaids :) I would def suggest taking somebody with you, for extra support & opinions etc. Try to take somebody who is brutally honest, rather than someone who will just say they like it, to please you. I went for my appointment with a list of things I hated, like ruffles, certain material, beading etc & tried a few dresses on with those things on (pics in my albums) & I loved them! So keep an open mind :) xx

I wont be looking at dresses until April, and not planning on ordering before August (unless I find one I love) as I know I will probably change my mind! And for bridesmaids dresses I will be looking this summer and then ordering around January/ February 2014. And I'm also going to be taking my mum dress shopping with me, I know she will be honest with what looks right and what doesn't xxx

Well, I've got myself into gear after realising we still have quite a lot left to do, and have decided on who I want to do my hair and made a provisional booking for me and my mum, and we have called the registry office to see if there's no way they can make a pencilled in booking, if we pay up-front. They've taken down all the details, and will get back to us within 3 days.

I've also been up to Hatton Garden. After much umming and ahhing I've decided to have my engagement ring re-made in platinum with better quality diamonds, as the fact it's white gold and will need re-dipping bugs me, and the diamonds aren't the best; so, they took a ton of measurements and are getting back to me with a quote for that and a custom-made matching wedding band. Really not looking forward to receiving that, but hey ho! Ooh, and my OH has finally decided on a ring, so that's good! And his will cost £365 which isn't bad at all!

Then we're hopefully seeing the lady we'd like to do our cake on Saturday to make a booking and pay the deposit.

So, quite a bit of progress!
