I hope you dont mind me butting in.
I am getting married on 14th August. We have been engaged for two years on Christmas Day, but have only now been able to set a date. I am getting a little worried about planning.
I am making my own invitations, which i already have bought everything for.
We have booked the registration office, but still need to give notice.
I am on a tight budget. My Grandma is going to make my wedding dress and my DDs flower girls dress. She is also going to bake our cake.
She is insisting on making a buffet for us, too, but even thought we are on a budget, I do want something more than sandwiches and sausage rolls on our special day, so I am preparing for a battle with her about that one.
Getting a little worried now, about how much we have left to plan, but I am sure we can pull it off.

I am so jealous, Linzi-jo. I have tried on some dresses last year, but I didn't fall in love with one.
Obviously, the clock is ticking, so I need to get a move on now. I still need to ask my MoH if she wants to be my MoH, before I can even ask her about coming dress shopping with me lol I am a little nervous, she will say no, so I haven't asked her yet.

So excited to be getting married this year, also just wanted to check, as I am having a religious ceremony in a church we don't need to give notice of marriage do we? I'm pretty sure we don't anyway but feel I ought to check!! I feel like I have done a lot of planning, but still have so much to do... Completely stuck on music choices for the ceremony as although it is in a church, it is a modern church so doesn't have an organ.

Melanie if it is a Church of England church then no you don't have to give notice :) And are you thinking of instrumental music or music with words? xx

Marrying.Ryan, if you are close enough to her to ask her to be your MOH then there is no way that she would say no! And yes get going soon as most dress shops say not to leave it any later than 6 months before otherwise they may not be able to get the dress in on time. Only dress advice I can give is to try on ones that you would never in a million years think you would wear, and you will probably find that one of those is 'the one', I did! xxx

Thanks for the advice. I will try something with lace in that case, because I do not like lace at all. I can't imagine myself in a lacey dress at all! I only need to go dress shopping, so I know what type of dress I like, as my Grandma will be making it for me. Well, as long as I fall in love with a dress, that she can make. She is very talented, though, so hopefully that wont be a problem. But she will need time to make, it, too, so I better get a move on.

The whole MoH thing is a long story, but basically, I had a MoH, who has also been my best friend for a very long time and I was her MoH at her wedding and was there when her children were born and we were just extremely close. We have grown apart somehwat over the last year and she has just recently deleted me of my book of face and not replied to my messages or calls.

I therefore need to ask my future SIL if she wants to be my MoH instead. We were really close friends before I started dating her brother and are still good friends, but I am worried she will say no, because of the whole second choice thing.

I'm sure she wont see it like that at all hun, and I'm also sure that she will be honoured to be asked! And I always thought I was going to get married in a Grecian chiffon dress which was quite simple and plain, I have ended up with a dress that is lace, with a long train and loads of detailing! lol xxx

Melanie, if it is a modern church they will probably have a CD player, so you can have whatever music you like. You need something slow to walk into, and triumphant to walk out to, then ten to fifteen minutes for the register. If it helps I'm going in to Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure and out to the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel. Other pieces that work well for the entrance are Pachelbel's Canon, Air on a G String by Bach, the Bridal Chorus by Wagner, Meditation by Massenet, or a setting of the Ave Maria. The Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke, or the Toccata by Widor works well for the walk out, but it would need to be a recording, as they are organ pieces. Another one is Walton's Crown Imperial, which they walked out to at the Royal wedding. I'm only thinking of classical pieces though, which is my area of expertise. You might want to walk out to something more popular and upbeat. The important thing is that you love the music.

I feel the same, like it isnt a dat emiles away any more, it is THIS year. eeeeeeek

I have had a slight wedding wind this weekend (as we have finally got some money to spend on the wedding, not much but enough for little things I have had my eye on!!)
    I got:
    Cake topper
2 x flower girl plaques (1 came free with topper - every little helps)
2 x flower head pieces for bridemaids
Booked the apartment for my family to stay in for the days leading up to and weekend of the wedding!

Feel a little more under control now.

Have had "words" with OH, whose ONLY jobs are suits and cars.. we have no suits and cars! Kept asking him to look as was worried we would miss out on the nicer cars or better priced firms.
He asked me to help with cars and I started looking and LO AND BEHOLD most places are booked up, or at least their better cars are.. who'd have thunked it? So hopefully that may have pushed him in the right direction and he will start investigating while I am working away this week.

Next job - Flowers and shoes :)

The venue I wanted isnt available. There isn't much to choose from around here, that doesnt require a mortgage, so I think we need to settle for just a room hire in a pub. I really wanted a hall, but I have had no luck :(
At least there are some lovely pubs around here, so we can still make it look lovely. And it will be a lot cheaper than the hotel I was looking at.

Can someone help with this.. it's a little confusing.

My OH and I live in Coventry which is our current local parish (although need to register properly with my church)
We get married in a catholic church in South shields which is either South Tyneside or Sunderland parish (not sure which)
My home parish is Aberdeen (where I grew up and did all of my church ceremonies, holy communion / confirmation etc)

We need to give notice.. where do I give notice?!?
    SO Confused!!

I'm not sure, but I would ask the priest of the church that you're marrying in. I know with CofE you have banns read instead, and you have to have them read in both the parish that you live in and the one that you are marrying in if different.

Found a lovely hall, that is still available. They want to discuss prices in person, so I am worried they are sky high. We have two options now. Both will let us do our own catering. I would prefer the hall, but we have a room as a back-up, which is also nice, but not exactly what I was after. We will need to make a decision tonight.

The anglican church is different to the catholic one, as it is the state church. Reading the banns serves the same purpose as giving notice. The only reason I mentioned it was that if giving notice was the same as banns you would have needed to give notice in both Coventry and South Shields. Great that you can just do it once.

Yaaaay! We picked a room we liked and that fits our budget. The hall was not what I expected (too small, too smelly, but gorgeous on the outside), so we looked at the back-up. It's in a social club. They have two rooms, one upstairs, one downstairs. We knew the upstairs had been done up, so we wanted that one. But it was also too small. So i mentioned about having 75 guests, which would be a bit of a squeeze. It would have been a shared bar with members... Just too many things, that I didn't like. So she says "Oh, the downstairs is going to be done up in April, too. So it will look more like this one!" I nearly paid there and then, but H2B gave me the look, so we said we'd think about it. We thought about it and are definitly going with the downstairs. So excited!!! Going to pay the deposit today! Yay! It's all coming together!
