I genuinely thought I knew what I was doing... Clearly NOT!
We want too buy/rent a house next year before the wedding so decided on getting quotes/all planning done first so then all we have too do is save up and pay off but I can't seem too get my head round planning I thought I was on the ball but I feel like I'm drowning it's all so overwhelming

I feel so stressed and lost and do t know what too do now?

We've decided on a venue/menu/guest list and table plan but the rest is just completely boggling me

Any helpful tips would be appreciated??

    OK... first...

Take a long deep breath and let it out with a blast... repeat... once more and relax...

Secondly... you have 2 years... Don't bog yourself! You have tons of time. My OH and I got engaged 2 years ago last week and will be getting married in 7 weeks and we decided on this... solve 1 thing a month.

In regards to your table plan... as much as its great you have it done, scrap it. Why? because A LOT will change between now and then due to circumstances outwith your control.

The next thing I would suggest looking into and taking your time with is a photographer. They do tend to be booked up years in advance but don't let this make you rush into anything. Make sure to ask if you can see a full example of a wedding they covered, whats included, do they require feeding on the day, how do they work, whats their contingencies if they are sick?

If you're on a budget, look into photography students who are looking to expand their portfolio.

Don't rush into bridesmaids. Make sure you choose people who WILL support you throughout this process and who will remind you to be realistic when you are going OTT but also supportive when you're feeling overwhelmed. These people are the ones who will you get you into your dress on the day so make sure they're people you want in the room and are willing to work hard.

Do you want a theme? colour scheme?
    Band/DJ?
Religious/Registrar/Humanist Wedding (humanist is what I am having and is legal in Scotland but not in England)
Don't rush into wedding dresses either, again take your time and try on styles you wouldn't think to try. You'll surprise yourself.

Hope this helps and remember... take your time, you have tons of it and if you start feeling overwhelmed? turn off your phone and go for a long walk, if you have a dog even better and just empty your head of anything wedding related.

There is also a checklist available in one of the main threads.

    Deep breath!

You have 2 years to deal with the detail of the wedding. Once you have the date set and venue booked if you wanted you can actually wait 12 months before arranging anything else.

My hubby and I managed to sell 2 properties, buy one house and plan our wedding all in the space of 14 months. It is possible but you need to decide what is a priority to tackle. Details often can be done a few months before the wedding such as table plans.

Lol, not really, I'm just good at planning and organising and know how to prioritise. I didn't mention that during that period my job was at risk of redundancy too, luckily I kept my job but it was a stressful time.

You can do it, just need a clear plan. I put together a planner for the wedding marking out dates important things had to be done. It's amazing how much time you actually have to do things.

In that case I wouldn't worry about anything at the moment because you pretty much can't organize anything until you have a venue. I'm sorry to hear your other half is being made redundant :( seems to be a lot of that going around and with that in mind I would probably put a hold on wedding planning for the moment until you're back on your feet.

We also completely renovated our house in that time keeping an eye on the builders and choosing new kitchen, bathrooms, carpets, paint colours etc as ripped out entire inside of the house before moving in 5 weeks before the actual wedding.

You can achieve a lot in 2 years! Just take it one step at a time.

You shouldn't feel like a let down, just concentrate on what is important.

Sorry your h2b is being made redundant, he needs to find himself a new job ASAP and then if you find a perfect venue a couple of years ahead it gives you tonnes of time to get your own home and arrange a wedding.

My sister and BIL got engaged and concentrated on getting their home sorted first buying a flat and decorating. 3 months after moving in they set the date for their wedding and planned it all in 6 months.

Just remember where there's a will there's a way. Things have a way of working themselves out , and we're all here for those times when you need to offload. Believe me, back in 2012 and early 2013 the ladies on here had no end of my stresses and moans, mainly from house moving renovating stress, the wedding stress was minimal.

I find though that it helps to break everything down into little chunks and to decide what is the most pressing and important things to deal with and what can actually wait. Makes things much easier to sort xxx

Agree with GF make a list prioritise and do the most important things first ie venue and photographer. Then tick them of one at a time, don't rush take your time you have 2 years to go. I started planning mine in February for October this year! 2 weddings plus we are going away week before the weddings. Just relax and enjoy the planning.

i agree with the others you need to keep calm other wise you will make yourself ill.
2 years is a good amount of time to organise your wedding we planned ours over 18 months and that was plenty of time, we drew up a monthly plan and it has work out great, i strongly recommend you sort out what you want from your wedding, who you want it to involve, how many guests you can afford, the prioritise your tasks.
good luck and enjoy the process

You'll be fine. There's a lot that you can't confirm at this stage. Working out your budget is the key so that you know what you need to save and what you already have. Until you are in a position to confirm a venue and date and put a deposit down on your venue you can't start confirming other bookings anyway, so you need to focus on getting the finance established. You might find that you need to be cautious with making arrangements until your H2B's situation is more secure anyway, as you don't yet know what his future income is going to be. Drawing up a provisional guest list is a good idea as it gives you some idea of how much things are going to cost, but remember that not everyone will come, even those who you are certain will move heaven and earth to be there may surprise you, and you may meet other people who you really want to include. The stage that you are at now can actually be quite fun, as you can spend lots of time dreaming and coming up with ideas, and change your mind as much as you like until you get to the point of starting to commit financially to things.

I'm deffinately a dreamer lol! He's hoping too go into a job that pays between 30-60k a year depending on how high up the ladder you go so hopefully that goes too plan! I'm also expecting a huge payout for a claim that's been going through during the last 3 years; I have decided 100% on no kids and 50 guests max who will be there from start too finish and drawn up a guestlist too fill the 50 numbers and I can cut and paste where needed if that makes sense??

Budget is key at the moment though and I've been working on that in between being seriously poorly
Hopefully it'll all come together when we need it too I'm feeling a lot less stressed now thank god; also getting quotes for everything so we have a rough idea for what we need too save for etc

sounds like you have a good idea to sort it all out. can definately be done. we reserved a new build then got engaged, then moved in and sorted house out along wiht job rotations etc. It can definately be done just stay relaxed. So far iv found wedding planning is do a lot of booking and paying deposits then relax until nearer the time when it picks up again. enjoy it though xx
