also if you are making a sponge cake use a recipe using milk as it keeps the sponge soft and moist x

I am making my own, I am making a fruit cake. I bought Mary Berry all-in-one christmas cake mix......its the same as wedding cake.
It cost me a total of.........£10! I got 4 bags of the stuff for £2.50 each. I bought enough to cover for failures.......

Fruit cake is being made today actually, and then marzipanned tomorrow and put away for a month or so before I ice it.
If its sponge cake you're making, it also can be made in advance and it freezes really well.

im not sure yet i was thinking two layers sponge but different flavours and top layer fruit. probs do a simple design ice it and maybe put some purple ribbon around bottom of each layer and then im not sure after that haha. i would be good to see a picture of peoples finished cakes that they have made.

make sure to upload a photo raggedyanne. :)

also i read on internet that to put wooden dowls in the cake but i was confused as to what this is for?

The dowels are to support the cake when you layer it so it does'nt collapse in to the one below. If you look on the M & S website on the wedding cake section it shows a video of how to put the dowels in a cake and how to stack it. Hope this helps x
