Myself and husband to be were going to have a registry office wedding so we didnt need an order of service but then decided to also have a look at a chapel. After viewing the chapel we decided thats what we wanted and went and booked it today :) :) :) we are now having order of service and was wondering what would be on them? We have googled them but different ones have different things on them! also we are looking for a hymn to go on there but cant decide what to have, what did everyone else have? thanks in advance

Basically you just need the headings of what's going on, the words of any hymns, and anything that requires the congregation to make a response (sometimes there's something to say at the end of prayers, and at one point they have to say that they will support you in your married life). Typically, either the first or last page will have a list of the main wedding party (parents, bridesmaids, best men, ushers, flowergirls and page boys). Then a template might be something like this:
Music before the service played by ... (if there are live musicians) Entrance of the bride - Canon by Pachelbel played by the Smith String Quartet Preface Hymn - Love Divine All Loves Excelling (include the words so hymn books aren't needed) Declarations Reading - 1 Corinthian 13:1-13 read by John Smith, the bride's uncle (include the reference but not the full text) The Marriage Blessing Sermon/Address - given by Rev. Martin Davis Signing of the Register During the signing of the register the choir will sing All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber Prayers Recessional - Widor - Toccata - played by Matthew Clark - The Church Organist
Obviously the names are made up, and the pieces of music are just examples. Love Divine is the hymn that we're having though, and it is a very appropriate one, written by Charles Wesley. You might find you want two hymns, our other one is Great is Thy Faithfulness. I'd also recommend that bible reading if you haven't chosen one yet. You'll need at least one for a church service.

What Elinor said above is a pretty good description of what should be in the order of service. My H2B and I were the opposite, we were going to get married in a chapel but then changed our mind as I am no longer a practicing catholic and he is not religious at all. My favorite hymn is Bind us together lord. I would definitely have had this if we were getting married in a chapel. Have you picked your hymns yet? xxx

I will look that hymn up now thanks thefuturemrsk, and yes elinor was very helpful :) i have been looking and so far ive only liked amazing grace and o perfect love, i dont know if you would have amazing grace for a wedding though :/ only chose it as my uncle loved that song and he sadly passed and it was played at his funeral.

Elinor has it down in one. If you want to include them you can also have the bridal party listed (i didnt have space so didnt bother) xxx eg Best Man - xxxx Usher - xxxx Bridesmaid -xxxx

Amazing Grace is a useful one if you've got a lot of people who don't go to church and won't know many hymns, as it's well known. Bind Us Together and Morning Has Broken fit into that category. Apart from Bind Us Together they're not particularly obvious for weddings but they're not totally inappropriate either. The church where we're marrying does a lot of baptisms for non-church families, and they generally use Amazing Grace.
