Hi, I'm looking for some help/advice

My engagement ring is 9ct White gold (my friend had the cheek to call h2b tight the ring cost £750) the question is I've heard you NEED to get it redipped every year is this true and if so where do I get this done? And how much roughly is it going to cost?

I've had my ring almost a year and it is marked as your expect but not OTT and definitely not yellow yet we get married in 10months so I don't know if I should get it redipped now and then again just before the wedding or wait until nearer the wedding as I want my rings to look their best on the big day.

Also is there any were that can check the 'health' of the ring I'm worried that the claws holding the diamond in might come loose after my so called friend pointed out her ring gets a health check included in the price.

I not all that sure tbh, I've not really heard of a health check but I would probably wait until a few months before your wedding instead of getting it done twice. if you're worried about the 'claw' then take it to a jewellers and have it checked but I wouldn't worry just because of your friend if there's nothing wrong with it. Sounds like she's doing a bit of 'my dads bigger than your dad' lol x

    It depends on its condition

Btw 750 is not cheap my 9ct white gold engsgement ring was 80 and my wedding ring 125(10%discount cos mam works on site) n i love them hoth they r perfect for me!! His is a cobalt wedding ring 27quid (was 30) he loves it

Anyway ive had my engagement ring 5 yr and it only needs dipping now im waiting till nxt yr tho.. it may cost about 20-40quid its not much. Mine also needs resizing whixh is probs y i rarely qear it si the condition is rly good lol

To resize and redip i was quoted £45.. if uve had it under a ywar usualy they are granteed ask the shop it was bought frm they may do it free :-) as for the diamond in middle i requested mine was tightened as it was wabblin wud never fall out but i made sure it was tight. They can do that when they redip it and again if under a year should be within garantee x

Thank you both. April I think your right with the whole my dad thing. not going to let it bother me.

Oh I know its not cheap its was my friends cheek that it was only a 9ct white gold ring. I flipped when I found out the price far to much.

I got the ring from a well know high street jeweller and I done a bit of digging and if I take it back with the receipt (which is around here somewhere) they will re coat it before the year is up. so need to get it done during the week.

I have a friends like that too.
my h2b spent £350 on my ring and i was not happy when i found out i thought it was to much. my friend picked her own and paid £500 for hers and its very bent think she now wishes shed found a cheaper one . i love the fact my h2b picked mine out and suprised me with the proposal

I went to a local independent jeweller for my engagement ring and he didn't say anything about redipping. We had a budget in mind of around 700 but ended up playing 1250.....oopsy!

White gold rings do need re-dipping eventually, but I have had mine on for 2 and a half years now and it still doesn't look like it needs it just yet. I will probably not even bother getting it done until just before the wedding! When you put your wedding band against it you will probably be able to see the difference in colour, but it doesn't really fuss me while it's just the engagement ring I'm wearing. X

Mrsk thats an oops hehe :-) but if u love them probs cudnt resist :-)

My mams whitegold ring is now yellow gold she never bothered getting it dipped lol.. it also had a pattern on which has now wore off and its practically a smooth gold ring. Im gping to have to get used to the idea of wearing diamonds everyday tho i always feel i can only wear it when i go out incase i ruin it! Bt my wedding ring has diamonds also so gun have to get used to it!

And yes id take advantage of the dipping etc while u can it wont cost much to do later but worth doing it for free lol xx

Cheeky friend! Maybe you should leg her know that if her ring is 18/21ct then it's a lot softer and easier to damage!!.. My first ring was an £80 Swarovski one which I got so many compliments on but was just a temp one and had issues with stones falling out as at work I'm constantly getting my hands wet. my one now is 9ct cos I don't want it to be easily damaged! Great you can get it re dipped it's sonething I never even thought of!

Mine is 9ct white gold as week. I've almost been wearing it 2 years and it's fine. I'll probably get it re-dipped in a couple of weeks in time for the wedding. If I was getting married later then I wouldn't do it yet xxx
